I had my first visit yesterday. LLMD thinks I will be fine after a few months of anbx.

After reading the boards here, I am a little concerned with meds. I thought doxy was the "anbx of choice" for early LD. I took doxy for 2 weeks before seeing LLMD. LLMND prescribed Biaxin 500mg twice daily and said, "There are better anbx choices than doxy." Should I be worried?

Thanks,
Jen

Most of us take something other than doxy once the first few months go by. Biaxin is a great choice.

I think I am worried because I am in early stage (bite 2 months prior) and total doxy given was only 2 weeks. I have heard Biaxin is good, just didn't know if it was for earliest stages.

Have you read the Burrascano lyme treatment guidelines:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

Study these to learn about your disease. You need tested for coinfections. Did doc do that? The best lab for testing is Igenex in California.

If doc didn't do tests for these, what did he say about coinfections? Will he treat you as if you have all of them or what?

Did he give you a treatment plan? For example, did he say if he will be adding other meds, or changing meds later, etc.?

yes, read dr. burrascano's lyme guidelines over and over to understand what and why you are treating. [Smile] hugs

I took Biaxin and liked it, but was taking it with other meds. I would recommend reading the Dr. Burrascano treatment guidelines at www.ilads.org, it has all the various meds and how they work.

I took Biaxin and HATED it. It made my mouth bitter ALL day, I got headaches, was dizzy and couldn't sleep.

I am afraid they will put me on that again. Are there any other good choices for people who can't tolerate that dreadful Biaxin? I don't know how all of you tolerate it.

I could not tolerate it! I did much better on Zith. Everyone is different though! Some will do great on one med while others can't take it. That is just how it is. All you can do is try.

I am actually on Doxy for the first time and I have been treating for 14 months.

Just listen to your LLMD. He is the one that matters the most when it comes to your treatment. He should treat you as an individual and it shouldn't be a one size protocol fits all kind of thing.
