My LLMD recommended a multi from Researched Nutritionals called Energy Multi-Plex.

It is supposed to support the adrenals too with things like DHEA, and it has a lot of good things in it....so I don't think I could just replace this supplement easily.

But I am worried because it has CoQ10 in it, and I am on Malarone, which contains atovaquone, the ingredient in Mepron.

I know there are various LLMD opinions on this...I just wanted to get a sense of whether or not your LLMD says to go ahead and take some of these CoQ10-containing things with Mepron or Malarone.

I am wondering if he thought for me, the benefits outweighed the compromising of the Malarone. I have severe fatigue, so I wonder if he just thought I needed all the help i can get.

I will ask, but I just wanted to see what other LLMD's are doing. I have read various things. Please be patient with me...I know this question might seem stupid to some (and I know I have asked a million questions on here lately), but I am going through a bad herx, so I'm just completely incapable of making these decisions right now, and I have lots of new things I'm supposed to be starting.

One of the reasons I don't want to question him on it, is that I assume he knows what is in this supplement. So why double-check him? (though i still will, just in case it was an oversight). So if people here say their LLMD's do this too, maybe i'll just take it and not ask.

Thank you.

My LLMD said no CoQ10 with Mepron and reminded me again when I switched to Malarone.

I have also read differing opinions on this board so I understand your confusion.

Is there alot of CoQ10 in your multivitamin? Maybe it is a very small amount and your doc doesn't think that it will interact much?

Thank you for responding. My anxiety has been through the roof, and I have been just obsessing over all these supplements lately.

Anyways...not too sure on the amount, because it says, "Heartstrong Complex: Co-Enzyme Q-10, L-Taurine......580mg", so it is 580mg between the two. There are various other "complexes" in the ingredients list too.

These supplements are very pricey, so my guess is that they don't disclose the exact amounts like that so that people won't just buy other supps instead.

I am sure if I call the company they could tell me, but it's too late today now.

I should have called my LLMD this week, but now I have to wait until Monday. [Frown] And I'm still on the fence if I should even bother him about this...

CoQ10 and tetracycline drugs are a no-no with Mepron. I assume the same for Malarone

My LLMD wants me to take CoQ10 when taking Mepron. I am not sure why but he is one of the top LLMDs in NY.

Nope. Mepron is a fat-soluable free-radical producer- that's how it works to kill the nasties- and CoQ10, Vitamin E, and some others are fat-based antioxidants (free radical scavengers). Therefore, the theory is that taking those supp's will decrease the effectiveness of Mepron/Malarone.

My LLMD says there is no evidence to support not taking CoQ10 with Mepron and recommends it.

I know....confusing!!!

So confusing, I'm on Malarone and told no CoQ10, unless I develop muscle weakness, then I can have a brief holiday off Malarone, take CoQ10, then back on.

I've developed serious abdominal pain on Malarone and will have to take a forced holiday now from it (with LLMDs permission) so I'll gobble up some CoQ10 while off.

Malarone gives me debilitating fatigue!!!! I hate it.

Jill
