I have heard lots about probiotics, but don't really know anything about them. Should I be taking them? What kinds should I take? Anyone notice positive results from taking them?

Yes, you should take them.

The best are refigerated and contain millions, if not billions of a variety of beneficial bacteria.

Take them 2+ hours away from any antibiotic. You don't want to kill the good bacteria from the supplement.

All I can say, is that after 7 months of antibiotics, I have not had any yeast issues.

But... I am also on Nystatin oral tabs as a preventive as well.

Absolutely. Everyone should take them but especially if you are taking ABX. Good info

provided above. You should add Saccharomyces boulardii, which is a antibiotic specific strain, as well.

absolutely!

Usually an LLMD will always recommend one along with the other supplements lymies normally should be taking, such as fish oil, vitamins, magnesium, extra B's, immune support, antifungals, etc.

much of your natural gut flora is being destroyed by the antibiotics.

probiotics actually helps prevent 'leaky gut' which is a serious gastrointestinal issue. you can google it.

buying probiotics can be very confusing. look for a high culture/high strain refrigerated probiotic. you can usually get these in a reputable health food store in the refrigerator section.

two over the counter kinds that i can say are very good are: MEGAFOODS/Megaflora, 20 billion cultures and 14 strains, and Renew Life Ultimate Flora CRITICAL care with 20 billion cultures and 10 strains.

there is also IFLORA Professional from SEDONA LABs,20 billion/16 strains, but it has to be ordered by an LLMD.

they are usually taken between meals and at least 2-3 times a day at bedtime, and 2-3 hours away from your antibiotics. (so that the live cultures will not be killed)

There is also VSL#3, which i would only use if you are taking multiple antibiotics.

good luck. [Smile]
