I am still so new to all this - I've been searching alot on this site and found alot of great info but still had a specific question hoping you can input on.

I am finishing up a 3 week course of doxy for my lyme - last pill was today. I know this isn't enough but it's all I could wrangle out of my gp till I see the LLMD in sept.

I saw some definite improvement while on the abx until yesterday when I felt just like I did before I started, which I assume may be a herx?

However, in addition to those old symptoms I started having lower left abdominal pain, and sometimes it felt as low as my ovaries. Yesterday my back hurt constantly on my lower left side - I guess you would call it flank pain almost.

Wondering if this could be a kidney infection? Do those symptoms fit? Can I get a kidney infection while on Doxy?

I just don't want to go back to my gp and have yet another new symptom that needs to be tested for - he already thinks I am a hypochondriac as it is.

Almost want to just wait till I see the LLMD and figure it all out but at the same time I am wondering if there isn't something wrong that needs to be treated now.

Anyone else ever have something like this? What did you do?

Could the kidneys be dealing with the die off and that is the cause for the back pain? I'm reaching for anything here.

Thanks again - you all are great and so giving with your info - I really appreciate it.

Hi Aimee,

Funny you should mention left sided lower abdominal pain, as I just started having that this afternoon.

I have been on Doxy and Rifampin for several months, and I haven't had this issue before.

I was wondering too if it might be an ovarian cyst, even though i have never had them before.

Like you, I don't want to run to a doctor again for another round of eye rolling and suggestions of drink more water and try an antidepressant.

I'll be interested to see if anyone else has some experience with this.

Yep, weird isn't it.

Started out around october/november in left lower rib and then to abdomen and pelvic area and then to left hip.

Have been on clarithamisen for three weeks rib pain gone only occational pelvic pain but hip pain quit signifigant. almost as though it is moving down.

seen but not yet being treated by llmd. He sent me for bone scan, cardiogram, brain mri plus 14 vials of blood for numerous test. will see him again end of august.

have tested positive for babesiosa and and symptons of that is rib pain.

Would love to know why it all on the left hand side though.

maybe should title the post left hand side pain and see if anyone else out there has it

That is very interesting to hear that all of your issues are also on the left side - I wonder if others have all or most of their symptoms on one side of their body.

All of my issues are on my left side. Headaches, numbness, tingling, tinnitus, pain, you name it it's on that side - wonder why. Maybe the area of the brain that has been infected? I have many neuro symtpoms.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Also still looking for some more info about the back pain and possible kidney issues or the pelvic pain. Just trying to figure some of this out. I really don't want to go back to the doctor if I don't have to.

This disease is frustrating me and I've only had it for a year - I don't know how you all do it year after year and stay sane. Just when I think I've got something figured out or think I am feeling better something else changes. Change and me just don't get along so well!

Good night all.

One of my LLMDs told me that lower left abd pain is common in Lyme pts because it is a site where toxins often build up. You have a sharp turn in your bowel in that area that may trap toxins moving through the GI tract.

If the pain persists, esp if you run a fever with it, I suggest you go back to your doctor again. So what if he thinks you're a hypochondriac; you must do what you need to do to get better, and it's his job to help!

I had this too. Try a little abdominal massage to get the lymph nodes moving.

Well I went to the doctor today and I addressed this issue - which turns out to be a combo of inflamed colon - Maryland Mom looks like you were right, thanks for the tip - and an ovarian cyst. Both of which we will watch and see over the next two weeks.

But to my surprise, my gp asked how I was doing with regard to my Lyme symptoms. When I told him my symptoms started to return after two days off the 3 week course of abx he gave me, he actually wrote me another 3 week script to see me through (almost) to my LLMD appt.

I about fell out of my chair. He told me last time I saw him that while I didn't actually have Lyme since my WB came back neg he would give me the "standard" treatment for Lyme which was that 3 week dose of abx.

All I can say is Praise God - I left this in his hands when I went into this appt and he totally took care of it.

Still in disbelief that he didn't think I was nuts for these new symptoms and then that he gave me more abx. Wonders never cease.

Thanks again for all the help and advice.
