My Dr pulled my PICC line yesterday after 45 days of Rocephin due to an allergy.

When can I get my arm wet again? Anyone have any suggestions?

I took the bandage off this morning and it's already scabbed over.

The Dr didn't mention anything to me and I totally forget to ask in all the excitement!

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I've had several PICCs, and the aftercare is pretty easy. Just take care to keep it clean and dry for the first three days. No swimming for those three days, and cover it when you shower.

After that, it should be healed enough to continue your life as normal!

I'm assuming you were taught what to look for in case of infection. If you take the precautions above, though, chance of any complications are very low.

Thanks MarylandMom...NO, no one told me what to look for in case of infection.

Can you help me with that please????

Thanks!

Usual signs of infection include redness at the sight, which may or may not spread up the arm if not treated promptly, along with increased localized heat (feels hot to the touch), and fever.

If in doubt, check with your doctor!

Also, if any pain or swelling any where in arm be sure to call your doctor right away.

I had a blood clot in my arm up to chest from picc after it was pulled.
