I am wondering what to do about a yeast infection that won't go away. I'm on my 4th week of Doxy and have already taken my second dose of Diflucan and still no relief.

The Doxy has also irritated my colon and I am having alot of left sided pain. That is tolerable but the yeast is not.

Right now it's a toss up - yeast or the old Lyme symptoms - either way I'm miserable.

Any suggestions? I don't go to the LLMD until 9/1.

Thanks,
Aimee

Are you talking lots of probiotics and staying away from sugar and carbs?

Yes, I am following the Inflammation Diet from Dr. Singleton's book and taking 2-3 of the Culturelle capsules each day. I don't know what else to do.

I'm thinking of just stopping the Doxy till I see the LLMD what do you think?

According to my doc, Mino and Doxy are the least likely antibiotics to cause yeast. Seems that there was a study done that says they have an anti-yeast component. Don't know the details.

Do you know for sure that you have a yeast infection? What are your symptoms?

aimie,

if you having gastro distress, it a good possibility that you need a boost in your probiotics.

there is a very good brand called VSL#3, which is extremely effective in helping in that area. it contains 450 BILLION cultures. here is the website for the product info. you can get this at CVS in the pharmacy dept.

http://www.vsl3.com/about.asp

in addition to having additional flora, you may want to start taking an herbal antifungal such as fungal defense or oregamax 2-4 times a day.

detoxing is also helpful in ridding the candida. some good suggestions would be steam, sauna, exercise (sweating if possible), lemon water, added fiber, warm bath soaks, etc.

there are also other products for candida: Candicyn (very good as it has many antifungals in one). Candex is an enzyme blend, and my LLMD suggested I take this as well. Kolerex is a VERY powerful product for candida. It may not be for everyone. You can google it.

yeast guard is a great vaginal aid which is a blend of vinegar and water. it helps to neutralize the ph. this is found at target or pharmacies.

dipping your toothbrush in bleach and rinsing well with water each time you use it will kill any live yeast organisms left on your brush. you can actually REINFECT yourself every day.

are you keeping CARBS and SUGAR out of your diet?
that includes, mayo, vinegar, pickles, alcohol, coleslaw and anything FERMENTED or that has mold, such as mushrooms. all FEED yeast.

one more thing, birth control can REALLY increase the candida issue too. if you are taking it, you may want to try another kind.

please consult with your doctor regarding adding new supplements into your protocol, just in case it is something other than candida.

good luck, I hope this helps a little.

I have not taken doxy but I have been dealing with yeast infections for the last 8 months. With the diflucan it can take several doses to work. I might suggest to you to get your doctor to give you a stronger short term yeast infection med, and then continue with the diflucan. That is what it took for me and finally my symptoms are seeming to subside. If you have any questions, pm me.
