I was just wondering what your LLMD would give you if you are on antibiotics and get a urinary tract infection (aka bladder infection).
I have had them before, so I know what they feel like, and I have one now.
As far as antibiotics, I'm on Bicillin, Ceftin, and Zithromax.
I have read online Cipro, Levaquin, and Bactrim are options for UTI's.
I am worried about taking one of those for only 3-7 days though (which is typical for uti), because I might take them in the future for Lyme or Bart, and I don't want to build resistance by starting and stopping.
I have Bactrim and also Cipro I believe here.
Or should I just go the cranberry juice route? Will that really get rid of it? I'd prefer to go natural if possible, but of course I don't want to under-treat it.
Would my LLMD treat this for me, or should I go to my GP, or just take some of my left-over abx here? Or should I take cranberry juice?
Thanks.

You could have a gram negative uti-that would require different abx. Get a culture-then find out what abx to take.
I've had a couple UTI's while on bactrim-the bacteria weren't killed by them-need amoxiciilian

Thank you for responding. Does amoxicillin kill gram-negative bacteria though?
I'm on Bicillin now, so I am wondering if it's even possible that it could be something that would be killed by Amox? Since it seems like the Bicillin would have killed it.

Get your urine cultured and have the lab run a sensitivity test find out what antibiotic will work against the infection. It will show which ones will work, and which ones are resistant. Meanwhile, drink a gallon of water a day and flush all that bacteria out!

I think my main problem is that I don't want to go to my local doctor, for a variety of reasons. I don't want to be asked why I'm on so many abx, etc.
Do LLMD's mind handling this kind of thing by phone? Is a culture really necessary?
Thanks Carol, I'll check it out.
If I do go the natural route, what is better: drinking unsweetened cranberry juice (I'll probably add stevia), or buying cranberry capsules? I'm thinking the juice.

Do you have a CVS minute clinic near you or a walk-in center. Ive had different experiences with the LLMD's....some would treat the UTI others would allow the walk-in center or my urologist to treat mine.
I would recommend a culture, so you know what bacteria you are treating, so the infection can be cleared up. Maybe your LLMD could fax an order for a culture to your local lab?

That D-Mannose looks good. Too bad it is $20 a bottle! Yikes. I guess I'll have to suck it up and buy it.
Too bad the health food store is closed for the night. I'll have to go tomorrow. I guess that's okay? I can drink cranberry juice until then though.

That's a good idea, cantgiveupyet. Hmmm. I will keep that in mind. For some reason I'm just not thinking straight today.
If I try to get rid of it naturally, that is okay, right? Like it wouldn't be dangerous or anything?

It wouldnt be dangerous hoosiers to treat naturally.....just some concern the infection could potentially get worse...if the natural remedies dont work.
