Hello everyone. I would like your opinions. I just went to see an infectious disease specialist.

I am currently taking Cefuroxime 500 mg 3x a day.

I have only been on it for about a week. This is the second time that I have been on meds for my lyme.

Pretty sure I have had this disease for about 2 yrs.

Anyway, I have SEVERE MIGRAINES. To the point that I can't get out od bed. (Not that I could to begin with, with the muscle aches.)

I went to see this Doc and he says that migraines aren't caused by Lyme but that it may be worse because of it.

And that the way to see if lyme had traveled to my brain is to do a spinal tap.

Just thinking about this freaks me out. I don't want to waist my time and go through something like that if it isn't any good at diagnosing lyme.

HELP PLEASE! [confused]

Don't waste your time. I just went through this and it showed nothing. Everything that I've read since indicates it's a waste of time.

Although this didn't happen to me, I've heard that spinal h/a's from a spinal tap are 100x worse than a severe migraine.

Please do a search, using the term "spinal tap." You'll be amazed with the amount of information found!

Migraines CAN be caused by Lyme and/or babesia. My migraines are GONE after successful treatment of the above tick borne illesses.

DON'T DO THE SPINAL TAP!!!!!! Find a REAL dr .. an LLMD.

Do as Cold Feet!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you guys so much. I thought he was pretty good untill he said the thing about the migraines.

I never had Migraines, shoot I barely ever had headaches until lymes.

Well back to the drawing board. Thanks again everyone! [Smile]

I never had migraines until I was very sick with Lyme and Co.

I have obvious neuro involvement, including several white matter brain lesions, but my LP was negative for Lyme.

So, as you can tell, I second the above advice and opinions!

Find another Dr. Or try to get him to do some research, he needs to update his knowledge on lyme. What he said is absurd.

Also, spinal taps will usually show nothing whether lyme is present or not. If it's positive, great, if negative it doesn't mean you're not infected, but he will use that as "proof" that it's not in your brain.

I agree with Coldfeet.

I also never had migraines or even headaches for that matter. The migraines started with LD.

Most spinal taps show nothing when it comes to LD. It is a big waste of money and time.

ID docs use it as a way to say there is no scientific proof that you have LD.

Spinal taps have a 20% chance of finding Lyme. Useless.

Yeah I definately wont be getting this done!

JamesNYC and Sutherngrl that's EXACTLY what I'm afraid will happen.

I don't want to go through the procedure and then have the results be negative and have it used against me.

I feel like I would just be puting myself in a position that would start me back to square one.

Thanks again for everyones response.

Yes I agree too after reading all the medical literature and journals. As well as evidence presented in the IDSA inquiry.
