Does anyone else have this issue is it lyme related or something else. Two docs has told me my red blood cells are enlarged?

Lyme will cause low b12 i have been in remmision for 6 years. Wonder if the low b12 shows also i have come out of remission?

My son as abnormal red blood cells. I don't know if they are enlarged or what that means?

Enlarged red blood cells....as measured by MCV ( Mean Corpuscular Volume )...can be caused by low B12 and Folate. I had high MCV for years and had all the usual causes ruled out. Saw a couple of Hematologists and one even siad I must be lying about my alcohol intake !!
A couple of years ago I found out that I have hemochromatosis, a genetic disease that causes very high iron levels in the blood. The iron affects the liver, and the MCV. Very few doctors....or Hematologists ...are aware of this.
To test for this, get a Serum Iron PLUS Ferritin AND Transferrin Saturation %. I have been treated and my MCV fell. If it starts to rise again, I know my iron is getting high.
Annelet, Interesting a few years ago my brother was told he had hemocromatosis and had blood taken. Coarse he went to new doc and suddenly he dont have it.
I will mention this to the lyme doc see what he says.

I have macrocytic anemia, if that is what you are describing: Recent blood: Red blood cell count: low at 3.56 (3.80-5.10) MCV high at 102.4 (80-100) MCH high at 33.9 (27-33)
Have had this for years - as well high WBC count.
I give myself B12 injections and take F. acid.
Dunno - is this another LD thing?

I do too as measured by MCV. I've had my blood levels of folate and B12 tested and they are good. I've been tested for anemia, don't have it.
According to what I've been told, it could be caused by babs treatment.

I had this before starting treatment. The realization for me was this discovery of these had very low protein which means something else like borrelia is causing it. As cancers were ruled out.

Babesia causes the red blood cells to enlarge so does malaria.

Infections may alter the rbc's, but hemochromatosis definitely does. It the commonest genetic disease in N.America, particularly in those of Northern European origin. If you diagnose one person, you can help a whole family. Doctors are still not clued into this disease. Check it out. Anne

I also have enlarged RBC's and fewer than average. I guess they get big and there isn't room for the average number to fit.
Never have known what causes it, and it is just slightly out of normal range so that no one takes it serious.

I too, was told at my last LLMD appt, that my RBC's were enlarged. She attributed this to LD and coinfections and acted as though it wasn't of major concern and a fairly common finding...but, I don't know. TS

Well doc mentioned mono im 62 years old this has got to be a joke LOL Well i had 17 tubes of blood taken from me today. And so many tests that it literally took the girl over 30 minutes just to price them all . So if they cant figure out whats going on then it just dont exist. Meanwhile im back on more abx yippie. Baxin/ceftin generic. Thanks guys
