Thanks, Tinny.... I'll bump this up.

I didn't notice any big changes or surprises, did you?

I wonder how much of the increases we see actually have more to do with increasing physician awareness than any increased likelihood of infection in any given area.

Is there no Lyme disease in Hawaii? or just no doctors who would recognize it?

[confused]

If there's no Lyme disease there, I wonder what their secret is.

With MY luck, it would be poi. [Roll Eyes]

Secret is simple - ticks don't live in subtropical and tropical climates.

Lots of ticks in Hawaii. Don't know about deer ticks but lots of dog ticks which have been implicated in lyme disease.

I think ALiG has a good point. Lyme disease is not recognized in my State even though we are endemic according to the CDC. What State isn't endemic these days?

In my State, we have lots of MS, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue syndrome and very little lyme disease. No records are kept for the numbers of Fibro or CFS. We look good on paper with so many being misdiagnosed.

Thanks for posting this info TC!

Terry

Most of the southern US is subtropical... and as we know, there are plenty of ticks there.

Southern Florida and Hawaii are considered tropical... and ticks live there as well.

Sooo, I'm not sure where your information is coming from exactly Coltman? Care to explain?

Are you Kidding me??? 2 in Arizona.?? No way..! Jose!!

Ticks are sensitive to dry heat because they die when they're dehydrated. They'll die in the dryer on high heat for an hour, but they'll survive a round in the washing machine.

I think it's hard to become dehydrated in the tropics unless you spend too much time in the salty ocean. There's plenty of damp places for them to hide out & rehydrate.

Perhaps it's the volcanic ash or something in the water. [Big Grin] I really didn't care much for poi.

I understand that the "cost of living" in Hawaii is fairly absurd. I wonder how that translates to medical care.

Hmmmmm......... ???

I would think the big reason for the lack of lyme in Hawaii is directly related to the deer population and white footed mouse, vol, rodent population. Realize that the lyme bacteria itself, though spread by ticks, comes from the rodents and is spread by the carrier, ..ticks... In the areas of a high deer population, the cycle of rodent, tick, deer, human prevails. In areas that lack deer, white footed mouse, rodents, the ticks aren't carrying the bacteria.

It would be most interesting if a someone or group could dispute these finding by their enrollments of patients. What if every LLMD disclosed every state patient resided to a United list? LOL I want to see that one. It would be easy to do. Simply sorted.

I wonder if reporting might be a big pain in the doctors' behind or something.

For some reason, my PCP answered the form that my positive Babesiosis test generated incorrectly.

She said that I had not had a tick bite within two months prior to my positive result. She also answered that it was a past, chronic infection.

The tick bite was the reason for the test & it WAS within two months of that test. [shake]

Go figure.... [confused]

For the life of me, I can't figure out why she would have done that.

UNLESS she thought that my prior reaction to Biaxin WAS the Babesia.

Actually that would make sense, however since I tested positive separately for both microti & duncani with slight difference in Sx, perhaps I was infected with ONE of them at that bite. [confused]

Maybe NOT because of the paperwork....
...nevermind [Roll Eyes] [bonk]

She DID have a clue, but the other Dr in the practice (the one that originally saw me) would have made a good IDSA guidelines author. Maybe THAT was why she left the practice.

Perhaps she & her "you now have Fibromyalgia because you had two weeks of Amoxi" partner didn't see eye-to-eye.

Sorry for the rant. I think I'm having a bad day. [Frown]

Hey there Truth...

I haven't had time/energy to wrap my tiny brain around it yet.. but will do so ASAP. I did note that the new criteria has lowered the number of cases in some states and if "suspected cases" were counted, we'd have a LOT more reported to the CDC.

Hey AG.. You said..

"Is there no Lyme disease in Hawaii? or just no doctors who would recognize it?"

I've known cases of Lyme (people) from Hawaii.. and they have usually had to come to the mainland for a LLMD. So my bet is you've hit the nail on the head.

BINGO!!! You are exactly right on with that!

I see it in a number of places, just what you describe, but the worst I've seen is in Florida.

For so many years Micky Mouse couldn't possibly have Lyme disease! What would the tourists (or their $$) say if they knew?

Shameful!!!

It breaks my heart we can't get things right any faster than we are moving.

Lives are being destroyed because of this situation and it makes me sick!

UGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!

Cotton..

"NC, for instance, went from 53 cases to 16."

NC is soooooooooo bad. HORRIBLE.

The NC health department thinks they own Lyme disease "everything" there since Dr. J was beaten down by their STUPID medical board.

Government run-a-muck... and it is sad they get away with it.

Another UGGGGGGGGGGG from me today.

BTW- If you could contact your reps.. and encourage them to sign on as cosponsors to the federal bill, it could help your state!

We need NC Congressional legislators educated and we need the patients there to make their voices heard!!!!

THANKS!!!

Spring showers...

You are RIGHT!

Get MAD! Do something about it. Call the ones who can help us!

PLEASE!!!!

NO legislators from Arizona are signed on to cosponsor the federal bill.

We need your help!

Thanks!

Shouldn't the LLMD be reporting where they contracted it?

That could prove helpful because then HI doctors could at least see SOME instances appearing there according to the surveillance.

Not to mention, people who suspect they have it would have SOMETHING to point to when their Dr says "We don't HAVE any Lyme disease in Hawaii."

I really wish the CDC would get their heads out of their butts with this surveillence system they have!

AG.. you said.. you silly girl you...

"I understand that the "cost of living" in Hawaii is fairly absurd."

Maybe that is why the ticks moved out?

[lol]

``````````````````````````````
Hey Wim...
You said.. "In areas that lack deer, white footed mouse, rodents, the ticks aren't carrying the bacteria."
Actually, the ticks are able to find alternate hosts if their favorites are not available... and some don't need those hosts specifically.
Not only can this be a problem with the spread and continuation of Lyme, but many other TBD's as well.
Check out the links I shared with coltman.
But you are right.. when the area has an abundance of hosts.. Lyme is more likely.
[Eek!]
Hey Pine...
Are you blooming now? I ask because I am allergic to you.. and my allergies have kicked in the past couple of weeks.
[Big Grin]
Anyhow.. you said.. "It would be most interesting if a someone or group could dispute these finding by their enrollments of patients."
I just heard mention of this going on somewhere, by someone.
Well, that sounded real official, didn't it.
Can't recall who said it and when.. but it was recently.
It MAY have been CALDA related... but don't quote me on that.
Maybe when I wake up some I'll remember?
AG..
Yes, the reporting system should be tossed out the window.. in MY opinion.
It only serves to hurt us when not done properly.
And there are so many IDiots messing with it.. it will never be close to being accurate.
Oh...
I came here to say that more charts are coming out soon... so do watch for them.
And a BIG thanks to those doing them for us.
