Does anyone know? My LLMD had me on diflucan (generic) up to
everyday for a while. Then, he put me on Zithromax (also generic),
and I was to take the Zithromax 5 days/week and the Diflucan 2
days/wk, which seems to imply that there is a problem taking
both in the same day. I need the Diflucan more frequently than
2 days/week. I'm also on Septra DS and IV Rocephin. Keeping
the Candida at bay is a challenge.
I would ask the him myself, but I have already used too
much of his time in asking questions, etc. outside of my
appointments recently.

My LLMD said it is fine to take them together. One is an antibiotic, and one is an antifungal; there are no contraindications to taking them together that I know of. I do it on a regular basis myself.

Thank you, Maryland Mom! I didn't really see why it should be a problem. But I thought it was odd that he dosed it that way. Perhaps to give me a break abx-wise??

Yes, you have a heavy drug schedule. All those drugs together could be hard on your liver, etc.
You can try Candex, which is enzymes that are said to dissolve the Candida; take on an empty stomach. I'm taking it, it does seem to help a lot.
The problem with the Candida remedies is that, i think, you should take a lot of different ones to prevent resistance. I read that in one hospital 17% of systemic candida cases were resistant to Diflucan. I read that taking Nystatin for 21 days will cause resistance after 21 days. One Candida program says to switch various remedies every 4 days.
I take everything i can but limit the Diflucan and Nystatin. I take oregano oil and peppermint oil pills, and GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) with every meal. I guess they do some good but aren't strong enough by themselves.
I've found Allimax to be good against Candida, but very expensive. Keebler says Hepapro brand Allicin pills are preferable, and they would be a litte less costly. Some people take just plain raw garlic.
Brussels recommends Sanum homeopathic products. She says they cured her fungus problems. But they're not to use with antibioitcs? i don't know about homeopathy.
Are you on a Candida diet, no sugar?

I took Flagyl, Zithromax and Diflucan at the same time. I didn't take Diflucan every day though.

Yes-both zithromax and diflucan can cause an elongated QT (?) wave-something cardiac. My LLMD told me NOT to take them on the same day because they can have cardiac side effects.

Hi Rumi,
Ditto what beths said - Diflucan and Zith or Biaxin not recommended on same day due to QT interval probs. Dr. B was also quite strict on this. I'm doing similar pulse at mo - Biaxin 5 days a week and Diflucan on my 2 days off - of course same LLMD!!

Wait a minute....so I should NOT be taking Diflucan on the same days as Zithromax??? Uh-oh...
I just started up both again today. Maybe I should do the diflucan on weekends like elainec said?

That's right, they should not be taken together. It increases the risks that Beth said.

Azithromycin is reported to POSSIBLY causing elongated QT intervals in some patients, but there is lack of substantial evidence.
To my knowledge, Diflucan has not made the list of either confirmed or potential drugs that induce elongated QT intervals.
If in doubt, ask your doctor, of course. If you're concerned, an ECG would tell if you are having this problem, or are at risk.
