Anything new on this problem? Any specific meds used for Lyme that might cause it? Anything one can do to help?

Thanks,
Ann - OH

My hair falls out when on Mepron - does that seem to correlate to your issues?

It does grow back once Mepron is stopped though.

Thyroid issues can cause hair loss as well - and are common in Lyme.

It's hypo- and my hair has gotten very very thin because of it.

Diflucan can cause hair loss.

The infection in general caused my hair loss, before I even started treatment. Evening Primrose oil is helpful. It did all grow back...

my hair is getting thinner and thinner:

lyme, thyroid, and DIABETES cause this ...

I am pretty sure that it is from the thyroid. I have Hashimotos and that explained my hair loss, at least that's what the doc explained to me.

I wasn't on treatment at the time.

A lyme "friendly" dermatologist told us to take a biotin supplement.

Don't know yet if it works. Maybe others have tried it here.

Hypothyroidism is a common cause of this. Unfortunately getting it treated is not easy. The meds are currently unreliable. Think it is a manufacturing problem. This is true of synthetics AND dessicated.

I was told to take biotin and I must say that it has helped tremendously. I take one 5000mg pill a day.

Treatment of antibiotics, getting my thyroid balanced again helped my hair grow back in.

I am a hairdresser and over the years the biotin has become a staple for hair and nails. It should help.

I lost a lot of hair prior to diagnosis. What didn't fall out became very fragile and broke easily. It was a mess.

As treatment went on it stopped falling out and at this point all the "bad hair" has grown out. It's back to normal.

I lost a LOT of hair and now am almost bald in the front near my bangs and I am in my 40's. My hair used to be my best feature but no more.

I eventually started treatment for LD and also changed my diet significantly and think that helped a lot. For me I think it was yeast issues that contributed to it.

I treated LD for a year, went off for 6 months and hair was still thin but not falling out and it had a nice shine to it, until I crashed 2 months ago.

Now it's limp, falling out, breaking off and looks dull. I am also dealing with gut issues due to ABX induced colitis.

Nutrition does have a lot to do with our hair issues as well as dealing with health/infection issues.

BTW, biotin did nothing for me but drain my wallet.

I lost huge amounts of hair a few years ago. It did grow back.

For me (and for many, I believe) it was Lyme-induced hypothyroid.

I recall it was scary, huge clumps of hair coming out in my hands while shampooing.

My first PCP had me taking biotin with no change at all.

It wasn't until 2006 when my LLMD diagnosed me with hypothyroid and I started taking medicine for it, that I saw any hair regrowth.

Wow! Thanks to everyone who responded. Someone who sent me a private message said she had great help from B-50. I would ask my doctor before trying it. It is over the counter and not too expensive.

I sent your responses on to the lady who inquired for her daughter. My hair is fine.

Ann - OH
