Any significance to these results from May:

EBV VCA (IGG): 4.94 (HIGH) REF RANGE: <.90=NEG

My IGM was neg. I had mono three years ago. What is the likelihood that EBV is chronic?

Are you on any antivirals?

I took Valcyte for 8 months due to very high EBV, CMV and HHV-6 titers.

My CMV titers were so high the lab couldn't measure them.

These are latent infections.

They become active due to Lyme suppressing our immune system.

So, basically we live with these virus' usually without any signs/symptoms.

Once positive for them, always positive for them.

At least that is what my LLMD told me.

So....I guess chronic is relative term here.

Maybe time to get an antiviral on board.

Hugs,

Geneal

Hi Lymeorsomething~

My EBV titers are in a different reference range. More like: 1:X Than 4.x like yours.

Here is some info on EBV:

Here is a link to an article about chronic EBV infection:

http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/fulltext/111088889/PDFSTART

These authors find EBV VCA IgG of >=1:640 and EA of >=1:160 in patients with chronic active EBV infection (CAEBV).

This link gives additional info:

http://www.vicd.info/testing.html

Dr. Montoya's criteria for participation in his recent research is at this link:

http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00478465?order=1

The criteria he used is:

Patients with "high" antibody titers against HHV-6 IgG ≥ 640, EBV VCA IgG ≥ 640 and detectable EA Ab at 1:160 or HHV-6 IgG ≥ 320 if EBV VCA IgG ≥ 1280 and has detectable EA Ab at 1:160 ...measured by the average of a minimum of two time points obtained during screening at least 3 weeks apart.

Now, I do get other viruses tested with the results in the format you have for EBV. Parvo has been in the 6-7 range...most recently 10 ...reference range <.90; CMV 4-5 range ...reference range <.99 My doctors are not concerned with these values, for they have been stable for some time....with the exception of Parvo which we will keep an eye on.

So, if possible, test your EBV at a lab that uses the 1:X reference range....Focus Diagnostics uses that range. Or test it again in several months at the same lab. If it is about the same, and not going up, then EBV probably is not a problem for you....based on what my doctors are telling me about other viruses with a similar reference range.

Best, Timaca

Geneal, Timaca, thanks. Geneal, did you make any noticeable progress after several months of Valcyte?
