Hi everyone
Can you take this combo? I have never taken biaxin xl before and someone told me you cannot take it with rifampin. I am back on rifampin after being off for 6 weeks. I tried to take mino...but nerve pain increased to a level 9. There is a limit to how much nerve pain anyone can handle. I was doing better before on rifmapin with a pain level back to 3 or 4. I could not handle levaquin or mino so I am thinking I may be a BART nightmare. Has anyone taken this combo before? Can you take it for a long time?
Thanks
Monica

rifampin lowers mepron levels, that's usually not prescribed for that reason.

however, rifampin and biaxin are often prescribed by LLMD's because it seems like a very effective combo for Bart. There were some studies with AIDS patients that showed that the rifampin affects biaxin levels or vice versa, and so standard doctors sometimes won't prescribe them together. SOme LLMD's figured out that the positives outweigh the negatives.

I know this is the combo my wife is taking currently. Her doctor thinks it is a top tier med for lyme and bart. she does not seem to have any "bad" reaction from taking them together.

I have taken this protocol before. Rifampin and Biaxin are okay to take together.

Rifampin does lower the absorption of Mepron though. Maybe your doctor can adjust your dose accordingly.

Thanks everyone. I started the rifampin and mepron...helping a little so far. I do well on these two drugs. I will start the biaxin xl in two days. I want to get through a big event tomorrow first..and stay vertical [Smile]
It is scary to try new meds...hate to crash and literally burn. Thanks for the support.

One of my 5 year old twin boys is on rifampin, biaxin and Mepron and artemisinin.

It is arguably not the ideal combo b/c of the interactions, but we have no choice. He does well on this combo.

He needs the rifampin b/c bactrim did not work on his strain of bart. He needs the Mepron b/c he has babs duncani and microti. And needs either zith or biaxin to go along with the Mepron.

I was told LLMDs don't like to use Biaxin and Rifampin sometimes because they are "messy" but effective, by messy I think he meant they interact. He liked Zith instead but that did NOTHING for me.

I've done Mep, Rifampin, Levaquin, and Omnicef together with no significant sides...

I love Biaxin...never had a prob with it...

How about Rifampin, malarone, biaxin and plaquenil?

same issue as mepron- rifampin lowers levels of the atavoquone in the malarone.

Monica, are you taking these all at once or what/

Hi
Yes I am taking them all at once. AM I not supposed to? Now my headache is really bad but it may be from the interaction with my hormone control pill. Rifampin makes me take a higher dose of synthroid and birth control. I have to get new prescriptions. Not sure what the combo will do to my other meds..ugh [Smile]
