I went to an ent for tinnitus, he did not help me, said everything was ok. I don't think I did a brain scan at that time, I did do a brain spect scan in NYC for lyme. Which doc should I see for my tinnitus? I know lyme is a factor, and now I suspect my amalgams can be the cause of it. Jenin

Hi - this is just my experience, but when I treat with a PEMF magnet machine, my tinnitus disappears for six hours - ie, the nerves may be getting a treatment.
The machine clicks as it sends out magnetic pulses. I held the white loop emanating from the machine close to my body. I started with a couple minutes time, and after some weeks, was tolerating up to an hour of time.
It boosts the body's electromagnetic flow and I guess helps restore a whole lot of body functions.
You can google for PEMF machines and read about it. The one I was using had a gauss strength of around 500.

Tinnitus often is a symptom of lyme. And on the flip side, many medications can also cause tinnitus. Check all your meds and read the fine print in the side-effects bar.
What antibiotics are you on? Zith? Minocycline? Biaxin? Those are the ones that most often exacerbate tinnitus.
There are things you can do - first, avoid in-ear pods and head phones.
Did you have noise exposure in your past? Even one rock concert that was too loud can cause tinnitus years later.

Hey Jenin98-
I'm sorry you're suffering with this. I had it for several years with lyme. It finally went away. For what it's worth, I went to see one of the top audiology specialists in the country regarding the tinnitus. He attributed it to lyme (after all it causes inflammation as you know) or B12 deficiency, or the abx I was taking.
He recommended that I take echinacea and B-12 for the tinnitus. I was so sick at the time and didn't follow his instructions so don't know the efficaciousness of this...
Now that I am better than I was for years and no longer on abx the tinnitus has disappeared. I probably had it for about 3-4 years.

B-12 is excellent to help tinnitus, however, I don't agree with your doctor instructing on-going daily use of echinacea. It can rev the immune system too much, especially for those with chronic lyme.
Echinacea should be used no more than 10 days at a time - unless in a combination formula from a lyme literate naturopathic doctor. In a combination, it would be balanced.
The audiologist had the idea down right: treat infection. But Echinacea has been overprescribed and frequently is the only herb that anyone even considers when there are thousands more out there with more specific actions. -

Have you been on quinine? That can cause tinnitus as well....the audiologist thought this may have contributed to my tinnitus....
there are many articles on quinine and tinnitus...just "google" it....
