I haven't been able to breathe properly for weeks now, and all the docs say is "probably an influenza virus". While that may be the case, I'm wondering if I have yeast/fungal issues.

Take Nystatin and probiotics daily but may not be enough. Also doing nasal rinses. My yeast infections aren't always so obvious. Sometimes discharge, many times splitting headache, increased fatigue, bodyaches.

Anyone have their nasal issues resolve with Diflucan?

I have a long standing sinus/congestion history.

Most often is was indeed yeast/fungal.

Abx. rarely cleared my sinus infections and the anti fungals did help. Diflucan can and will help for a time but in the end diflucan stopped working as well.

Diet is key. Dairy always made more congestion and mucus.

Probiotics also balance out the bad bacteria.

For me the only probiotic that worked is the VSL-3 450 billion. The others were just a drop in the ocean of bad bacteria in my body.

I hope you find a solution.

That's interesting, thx for your input. My LLMD has never mentioned VSL #3, he has his own "favourites"....might up my probiotic dose too.

My LLMD says sinus crud can be fungal.

I get bad fungal infections from time to time, but for me, I can tell my terrible nasal congestion around this time of the year is my severe fall allergies. This is ragweed season.

I first thought it was yeast but then when I went into anti-fungal over-drive, the congestion didn't get any better.

By the way, allergies or not, I recommend getting Sudafed(pseudoephedrine), the good stuff is always behind the counter, and you don't need a prescription. Over-the-counter "Sudafed PE"(Phenylephrine) does noting for me.

Its just amazing to me how much easier I can breathe with Sudafed, it allows the sinuses to drain and relieves sinus pressure. While it doesn't stop a runny nose, it at least allows me to breathe.

Also wondering about all the mold out there - all those fallen leaves rotting..yikes. Also mold in the house. Wondering if my immune system is reacting to all that.

nystatin only works in gi tract. you will need diflucan to get it in nasal / sinus areas.

x-clear has helped me also-google it. be careful not to let a dog near it.

I think you are right, probably more of a mold problem this time of the year, but ragweed pollen may be lingering. And the last week of rain makes it a really bad time for mold allergies.

I think its time I see an allergist, my allergies this year are worse than ever.

Diflucan isn't a bad idea though.

Hi Btm,

I am having the same problems. Just had allergy testing to environmental allergens (74 picks) and NOTHING showed, zip. I am congested, itchy, and having very bad breathing problems too.

I got this way since starting to treat babesia, don't know if there is a connection or not. Are you treating babs?

Try Claritin and sudafed in the morning, and Benadryl at night. Afrin in the nostrils when congestion is bad (the stuff is amazing), but never more than twice in a row.

Yeast can cause nasal congestion, but even though I have a lot of yeast problems, the above meds have helped me the most.

Thx for your replies and tips everyone. Feelfit, sorry you've got this too - no, haven't started tx for babs yet - am dreading it!! I can take Claritin but not the Sudafed, will give some a try. Thanks!

There's a guy on a show called Know the Cause. He preaches all the time about yeast/fungus and says sinus stuff is almost always yeast.

How's your diet?

Did you eliminate dairy?? sugar?? white foods?

I have resolved almost all of my sinus symptoms with diflucan. I have other minor issues, but the chronic infections are gone. Yeah!

need lots of help-how long did you take diflucan to clear that up? My husband is having these issues.

There is also something called MARCONs that my LLMD is working on/has identified. It's basically a nasal cavity staph infection found from overuse of abx. There is a swab you can do to test for it. He finds it in a lot of Lyme pts. I think the treatment is tea tree oil and some other stuff.

I don't believe you can use tea tree oil internally. I think it is very dangerous and says on the bottle not to be taken interally.

Studies have shown that most sinuses infections do come from fungal sources.

I would suggest rubbing some oil of oregano in your nose on a regular basis. Try a test sample first, as it does burn and not every one can tolerate it but it does work. Also a few drops under the tongue.

Put a few drops of grapefruit extract on your toothbrush with your tooth paste and it will keep your mouth clear of fungus, bacteria, etc. and be sure to brush your tongue and use a tongue scraper.

And if you have not used a netti pot, I would recommend that too. Do not use table salt, as it has fillers and junk added. Use a good pure salt.

I treated with diflucan for 4 months. Like I said the sinus infections are gone, I do still have some allergy issues, like burning in my nose, but I am not having the stuffy-fullness-mucous crud that I used to have.

For my allergies, I did have something called radiofrequency. Between the diflucan and the radiofrequency I feel like a new person!! I mean, I still have lyme and other issues, but my head doesn't feel like it is about to explode!! [Smile] [Smile] I still have some post nasal drip in my throat, but I am still working on all of the yeast and fungus. I am sooo much better than I was.

Sorry, Shosty, but I would tell anyone with sinus issues to run like he!! from Afrin. I was "addicted" to it. My Allergist put me on it for a week because my turbinates were so swollen, I seriously could not breathe. When I stopped it after those 2 weeks, it took me 3 weeks to get over feeling like I needed more Afrin. Because Afrin does bring the swelling down so you can breath, but it burns and it is not natural. As soon as it wears off (2 hours), you are back to misery, plus some.

For daily allergy and sinus issues, I use 1,000 mg of guifenesin and the psuedophedrine mentioned above, one tablet.

Shalome
