Now I am completely confused, deeply regret not accompanying my wife to see her llmd this time.
Her father flew her to see the doctor with intention to relieve me from taking a week off driving her, which is nice. What's not so nice is that he didn't go into to the doctor's office with her, and it ended up she couldn't remember anything that was said during the visit.
So she came back and told me that there will be two meds added to what she has been taking. I looked at the medicines and one is for yeast infection Nystatin liquid, and another is flagyl. Sounds good so far?
Then this came in the mail - Naltrexone HCL. I can see it was ordered by the llmd she just saw so that's reassuring. What puzzles me is, when I looked up online about the med, I saw this medicine is for control alcohol and drug addition.
It is late now, and tomorrow is gonna be Friday which the llmd is not gonna be in his office. Then the weekend.
So I am wondering if anyone can tell me what this means. My wife clearly can't tell me anything remotely meaningful. She doesn't even remember why this came to our doorsteps.

I also saw an information sheet from the company that sent the medicine to us that says low dose nalterxone (LDN) can be used to "boost" immune system, and often used for patients of various illnesses. Maybe that's what it is for?

Low dose naltrexone is used to modulate the immune system and has proved helpful to some with Lyme.
The dose given to Lyme patients is much smaller than that given to addicts.
This link gives a good explanation of the treatment. Also if you search this site for "low dose naltrexone" you'll find a number of threads discussing it.
I empathize with your wife...the brain fog from Lyme can make it difficult to remember anything, especially when you're under the stress of trying to take in everything covered during a LLMD visit.

Make sure it's a fast release formula. If it came in mail probably from a pharmacy that knows that.
The LDN website has list of the compounding pharmacies familiar with the formula.

dmc - yes, it says it a fast release. Hers is from The Compounder Pharmacy in IL which is on the list.
Do both of you personally find it helpful?

I was on it from 2001-2003, 2 yrs prior to finding out Lyme. The founding physician, Dr Bahari was my "MS" doc then.
I had increase pain, joint swelling then. Dr. Bahari said "something else going on".
Found a LLMD and +lyme test. I stopped it then. I would feel awlful- heart palps, shortness of breath 1 hr after taking LDN while doing abxs.
Just started back on it 3.0mg Sept. Only problem (expected) is hypo went to hyper thyroid.

Make sure your wife is not taking any narcotic pain meds while taking the LDN. I emailed the doctor on the LDN site and he said Ultram was OK but nothing else.

Thank you, Connie. No, she doesn't take any pain med. Pain has never been part of her symptoms.
