I just started azithromycin. At my last appointment I was 129 pounds.

I looked at the B-guidelines at ilads.org. I see this:

quote:
Azithromycin- Adults: 500 to 1200 mg/d. Adolescents: 250 to 500 mg/d
Add hydroxychloroquine, 200-400 mg/d, or amantadine 100-200 mg/d
Cannot be used in pregnancy or in younger children.
Overall, poor results when administered orally

Has anyone been given less than this? I am taking it daily.

And what is hydroxychloroquine or amantadine?

I've got someone wanting to give me 2,250 mg of Zithromax daily and it scares me a lot!

I took 500mg a day for one month, then went to 250mg for the next 2 months. I only weight 100 pounds. It should be distributed according to weight. Also zith stays in your body for a very long time, so it builds up.

Seek, let us know if that works!

The accurate dose is what is listed 500-1,200 mg/day. [Smile] The others are Plaquenil and Amantadine. [Smile]

I took 250 mg twice daily for a total of 500 mg daily.

I weigh 108 lbs.

Hydroxychloroquinine is plaquenil.

Amantadine is Symmetrel.

The minimum abx is whatever dose triggers a herx, then ramp up. I started at an effective dose of 2 mg (yes, two millgrams) per day, and I herxed.

If your ears start ringing you are taking toxic doses. I was told 500mg everyother day.

I have seen a tendency lately on the boards giving the message that high doses are needed or you will not get well.

This is not healthy and or true. Everyone is different and can tolerate and will respond differently.

Go with what your doctor and body says. Do not hesitate to talk to your doctor about any concerns in meds or dosage.

But do not fell pressured or influenced by others on boards like this that your meds are not going to work unless you do the higher dosing.

That may have been true for some. But we each are different.. Just remember that..

Thanks

PS also.

I think the idea that you have to herx and or should push through herxes is also the wrong message. IMO you can do more damage by allowing the herxing to get severe and pushing through them. Yes herxing will occurr but again listen to your body and you know when it feels like too much. Do not push through it and listen to yourself and take breaks and talk to your doctor about things like this.

I think we can treat without increasing our suffering that we already endure... and will get better..

Actually not necessarily toxic doses. Zithromax can cause ear ringing even at low doses. When I was on Zithromax, my ears didn't start ringing really loud until I hit 1,000 mg/day by IV. On orals, since less is absorbed, ringing was not a problem, even on 1,200 mg/day. Usually the minimum for oral Zithromax is 250 mg/2x per day or 600 mg at once.

Liver support is vital. It can help protect the ears. Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) can be a sign that too many toxins are circulating. If ringing is severe, there are other choices. More about all that here:
