This is a question to any forumites here who have recovered from lyme, and, also have had the influenza.

Ive been off abx for months, doing fine, feel pretty much fully recovered, but last week I came down with the flu. I think its the flu as my other family members all had the same kind of symptoms, and then a week later, I came down with the symptoms.

Anyway, my question is this.. when you had the recent flu, did it feel eerily like the return of the old lyme symptoms? While I had pretty much the exact same symptoms as my family members (fatigue, feeling feverish, hot/cold, body aches, dry cough, etc.), the one thing I had different was a small mini bout of anxiety that popped up.

Im wondering if the brain encephalitis that Ive been healing from was suddenly reactivated, or basically the swelling, inflamation in that part of the brain kicked in, making me get those same old feeling>?....or..was it more a case of.. "here we go again, feeling it like lyme", so I had a small panic attack bout", kind of like post traumatic stress disorder. Because I felt those old nasty symptoms, I started going down the relapse path in my mind?

Im just curious as to what anyone else here has encountered as far as flu reactions, after being health for a while.

Thanks!

Very good question, Wimenin. I had the flu about two weeks ago. Prior to the flu I was doing great. I was on a tough regimen for lyme, bart, and babs but was handling it well.

Now, I feel like I've relapsed quite a bit. Every night my legs give out on me, I've had several bedridden days, and my babs/bart symptoms have returned. Not to full force, but they've definitely come back.

I keep telling my husband it won't be long till I'm back to where I was progress-wise, but now I'm not so sure. I feel terrible today.

I had been taking regular walks, going to the movies at night, taking care of my children without any help, etc. and now I'm back to being dependent on my husband again. He had to dress the children and take them to school for me this morning. It's really awful to be back in this position after being "free" for most of this year.

I hope it's temporary. - Lymelady

I had the flu and recovered from it just fine. I'd do some extra detox and immune building type treatments to see if you can get the Lyme back into remission. Last year when I had the flu, I was sick for 3 weeks, so give it time. It may take you longer than the rest of the family to fight it off completely.

I was nearly in remission with my lyme, and then it came raging back....a few days later, I had the flu. Took me a month to get over the Lyme symptoms, but they are nearly gone again.

The flu itself was gone pretty quickly....the Lyme lingered.

By the way-an immediate care center MD gave me Tamiflu, as he recognized that my body had been through he..l with the Lyme-nice to be acknowledged like that!
