Hi Everyone,

I am on clarithromycin and amoxicillin w/ probenecid. 1/9/3 grams respectfully, for about 60 days.

The last two days my skin on certain parts of my body is really irritated and itchy. My question, is this a herx or a reaction from the meds.

If its a herx I will keep going, if its from the meds, I need to take a break I think.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I had my allergic reaction to Alinia, my skin was really itchy for a few days, but it was deep under the skin where scratching could not reach. I waited almost five days until my skin was itchy and burning like the worst sunburn ever.

My doctor's office told me to stop all abx and slowly add them in, one at a time. Alinia was the first of three I restarted, and I had hives and trouble breathing within 1-2 hours of taking that first pill.

For now, take some Benadryl and call your doctor first thing tomorrow if it's more than minor discomfort.

Have you had your liver enzymes checked recently? If they are elevated that could cause itching.

I have this happen to me quite often, usually after I have been on abx for months without a break. We never could figure out if it was a die-off or an allergic reaction.

Epson Salts baths helps, and I also take Attarax, an antihistimine that doesn't make you quite as drowsy as benadryl.

Stopping the abx for a while is usually what we end up doing.
