I have been having heart palpatations ever since i had this thing put in. (Which was on Wednesday) Several times a day and lasting for a couple of hours at a time.

Could this have anything to do with the line?

I have had the heart palpations in the past so it probably isn't that but of course since it started at the same day i am a little freaked out.

I have not even started the meds yet, will do that tomorrow.
Because of the holiday there was a delay in me getting my med shippment so i know it can not be because of the meds.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Ang

Your body needs to adjust to having a foreign object in it. I had a port put in after everyone telling me to get a PICC. I had severe chest pain (not where the port was but on the left side) for a few days. I was sure that there was a problem with the port in my chest. The pain subsided after a while. I still get it occasionally but nothing like the beginning. I think that my body is adjusting to the new addition.

I am not really familar with the port in the chest. Can it stay in longer?
Is it more comfortable than the picc? I would think so since you could more your arm and all.

Any ideas on what to cover the picc line with while taking a shower? I have been using press n seal but that is not handy at all.

you can buy picc line covers for showers at the drug store. I can't use them because of my MCS, but if u r not severely chem sensitive, it should be fine for you.

Just ask your doc/nurse too. Don't take chances with anything heart related.

Yes without a doubt. If the picc line was put into the superior vena cava too far it could cause an pvc, pac, arrhythmia.

Was your picc line put in under a special x-ray, called fluoroscopy. This must be done to be sure the catheter is in the right place.

I wouldn't have a picc line put in any other way.

If its too far you need to find out. Usually the line will be pulled out a few cm.

My line was in 14 months no problem and could have stayed in longer.

Contact your doctor, or infusion company nurse.

Dry Pro makeas a good picc line cover:

Thanks Stan,
Yes, they used ultrasound and after it was all done they even took an x-ray to make sure it was where it should be and they said that it was.

That is great news that you were able to keep it for 14 months...i hope that i will be that lucky.

What kind of medicine did you take in the IV?
I will be doing claforan 3 times a day, so i hope that it does good by me.

I appreciate the info on the cover, i need to get one. That would make things easier for sure.

Thanks again, Ang

Did you get an Xray afterward? They have to make sure the PICC line is placed in the right spot!

WC is right, If the x-ray wasn't done afterward then you need to get it done to be sure of placement. You can pop into the ER for a quick x-ray or CT scan.

Angrob, I infused a lot of critter killers. Rocephin, Zithromax, Doxycycline, Cefepime..All in the treatment to get me standing and moving where I am now.

Now on orals, and will continue to this is beaten down.

Good Luck with your treatment.

this is my second picc since september....the first was before I knew this was Lyme and I was an inpatient....when they placed the picc, I got very short of breath, flushed, dizzy, the line had to be pulled back 4 cm then advanced a little after the xray....but i had terrible palpitations every time i turned over or lay on my side like it was , tickling the wall of my heart, this time the flushing dizzy happened again on insertion but no palps this time....I definatley think it is positional, I would tell them and see if it can be adjusted slightly.
