My PCP has just prescribed Tramadol (sic) and I am also taking a ton of Neurontin. Are people able to function - go to work, hold their heads up off their pillows - taking these meds? I had actually been managing to get to work most days, before this last session of terrible pain (started about 5 days ago) and I am afraid I will not make it back...
any feedback appreciated
Pam

Everyone reacts differently to meds. But I've used tramadol for years. I take two tramadol and 4 anti-inflammatory to function every morning.

There are some days that I use something stronger. They make me non-functioning. I don't like that, so I don't use them much.

I took Neurontin years ago and didn't find relief with it? Some here do.

Thanks. Just took the first dose and it is taking the edge off a bit. Do you know how long until it reaches maximum effect?

Seems to peak in 3-4 hours for me and then very slowly leave my system. It last almost the full day when taken in then morning. When I notice it starting to decrease in effectiveness the drop-off to no effect noticed is then a few more hours.

Thanks. How much do you take a day, and are you able to function normally?

I take 1 50mg as needed when I am really bad. I Don't take it more often due to causing constipation and insomnia for me. Plus I don't really need it all the time. It does help me function close to normally when I take it.

I take Ultram ER 300mg and the generic (tramadol) 50 mg for breakthrough pain. It has never made me tired.

When things cause drowsiness I take them at night. That is always a good thing for me, because it helps my sleep.

The problem comes in when I adjust to the med, which I always do. Maybe you will find that to be the case, too.

Neurontin 100mg does not make me drowsy, the 300 does. But if I take it regularly I adjust to it.
