I recently discovered in the past 2 years that I have had undertreaded lyme disease for the past 16 years and is in fact "Chronic Lyme Disease" Of course me and my wife seen "Under Our Skin" and have read up online if it was sexually transmitted or not.
I tell you this everyone is is "SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED" we are living proof and insurance companies do try to hide test results. My wife did not care if she got Lyme disease or anything that I have because she loves me and says "If you got it I don't care I still want to have babies with you".
I made sure she was ok with that and showed her tons and tons of literature and the movie "under our skin" to make sure she still wanted to go through with it and she said "I know the consequences and we have been having sex way before we knew this so what does it matter now... if I have it or get it I do not care".
At first I refused to have sex with her without a condom then she demanded that I'd take it off or she would leave me. So i did. She got tested by her doctor almost every month this year and everything came back negative.
Then two weeks ago she realized that ever since me and her met each other her anxiety has been going through the roof, she has been getting mood swings and she never needed glasses before but in the beginning of the year her eyes started getting blurry and she needed to get glasses. I told her "when you go get your bloodwork this time tell your doctor that you want to pay for you bloodwork and to keep in out of the insurance companies hands". The doctor complied.
What do you know? Full blown lyme disease with bartonella. She has never been a person for the woods nor she hasn't been camping in over 15 years. I think we have discovered on our own that Lyme Disease and its Co-infections are definitely sexually transmitted.
I didn't know i had bartonella because i was never tested for that before but I don't really have to now because how else would my wife get it if she got lyme disease from me. If she got lyme disease from me im sure she got the bartonella from me also.
I hope this is a breakthrough for everyone and I hope everyone uses protection out there if they have lyme... no wonder its becoming an epidemic it is sexually transmitted!!! No wonder why people get rashes and some don't.r
I am about to tell my exgirlfriend who is the mother of my child because if she has it too then ultimately my daughter has it and my daugther is 3 and is having some developmental issues now and a social worker said she may be developing autism. We have an appointment with a psychoigist on Wednesday to determine this. I am scared to death for my daughter and I am going to get her tested. Feedback on this please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you're right.. I don't think they've ever proved it though.
However.. Your wife COULD have had a tick bite and not have known it. Easily.
and Please, don't let her get pregnant until she has been successfully treated. There are other forms of birth control.

Some of the experts are now saying borreliosis has
to be considered a sister to syphilis. That being
said it is possible. A good LLMD to treat you all
would be your best bet. And the sooner the better.

I understand miscarriages CAN be related to the mother having lyme disease.

I have four children, all of whom have congenital lyme. I did not have a clue that I had lyme until my youngest was 2 and my oldest was 12.
I am quite positive that my husband has lyme too. He either got it from me or he had it before. Quite likely he already had it but who knows about the specific coinfections.
Definately agree that the most important thing to do is get to an LLMD.

That is horrible.
One thing started irking in my mind- my real father is(was maybe?) a horrible guy , who ruined my mother and everybody else life. He verbally abused everybody in his family and close ones. I did think for all this time that he is just piece of **** , who was never worthy of my mother's pinky (she divorced him pretty fast , but still it ruined a lot in her life)
Thing is I now wonder if his behavior (almost qualifying for psychiatric deviation) was really caused by some infection (he wasn't entirely bad I guess all the time, just it was becoming worse and worse as years went by).
My life and any family relations are irreversibly ruined too . I was always considering seriously suicide as a reasonable answer to the riddle for the lack of better options .But now I think I at least have a glimmer of hope by fighting the pathogens .
As I now recently read many psychiatric disorders could be in fact originating from infections - syphillis, lyme , bartonella, borna virus, who knows how many more unidentified pathogens are there, how many lives are ruined . Because mainstream NEVER BOTHERED TO LOOK!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I totally believe lyme is sexually transmitted also. I don't need proof, I feel I have it.
My husband has it and so do both my grown kids. We don't live in an endemic area. It just doesn't make sense that we both got bitten and got lyme in KY 20 years ago. I unknowingly gave it to my kids.

I feel it is sexually transmitted too. I have it and was the first to get diag. and treated, then my husband came down with symptoms and both my boys too. We are all in treatment and you may want to look at how easily Bartonella can be spread by even sharing things like nail clippers ect... I do not have that post but some one posted about it awhile ago.

I believe without a doubt it can be transmitted sexually (I know too many people where this appears to be the case)...however...I think that some people's immune system is such that even though it might be transmitted to them, they are able to fight it off and never show any symptoms.

My LLMD says without a doubt it is sexually transmitted and has informed me that if I am going to be sexually active I HAVE to use protection so that I do not spread it.
My LLMD believes that I even passed it to my son (I had no idea I had Lyme and Co's when I got pregnant) and now my son is facing treatment as well.
I am so sorry you are going through this but it is really good that your wife knows what she is dealing with and can get proper treatment.

Yup. Even with HIV not everybody gets infected. Infectivity is not 100%

I met someone that has no doubt his wife got it from him. My question is - how easily can it be spread?
Can it be spread through saliva. Or is it just through blood and sexual intercourse.

I agree with you about it being sexually transmitted and also congenital. My husband of 11 years didn't have any symptoms until 2 yrs ago. I have had Chronic Lyme for at LEAST 21 years... but probably was born with it since my identical twin also has it.
My three children tested positive. Two of them don't even know what a tick looks like and have never been bitten. I don't care what anyone says... "oh, you can be bitten and not know it" etc etc.. my kids got it from me (the two youngest) and so did my husband.
I had 2 miscarriages as well and I absolutely think it was lyme related. As well as the endomitriosis that caused me to ahve to have a complete hysterectomy at age 29.
I also believe it can be transmitted by misquitos.

aubsdaddy, I'm so sorry you and your wife are going through this. Make sure to have your daughter examined by a LLMD. I think conventional pediatricians are even more ignorant about LyTBI's than adult drs.
While I've been sick for the 8 past years, my husband and I very much wanted to have a second child. I got the "O.K." from 3 OB/GYN's, but I had a strong gut feeling that I would not have a healthy child. Now that I'm more educated about TBI's, I'm glad that I never had that second child.
As always, there needs to be more awareness and education about TBI's.

I too am sorry for this discovery and the impact its had on your family. I only hope that the medical profession will start treating our disease with some seriousness.
I also was ruled negative (as many are) for Lyme until out-of-pocket, out-of-network, insurance-free ties...testing at IgeneX.
I think either the labs arent sophisticated enough to culture and detect the presence of Lyme and Co-Parties or there is a very Large cover-up...but why? Everything will come out eventually.
The state of MN has a bill proposed in the House and Senate in 2010 that mimics the Connecticut bill to protect Doctors in using discretion in treatment.
Insurance companies will be our largest battle on this bill...
