This morning, a few hours after I woke up, I developed a horrendous pain in my neck! It seems to have gotten worse throughout the day. I've never had neck pain before, and recently started to feel better during my 4 months of lyme treatment. Its at the base of my neck in the back. It hurts to move, and when being still.
I did start on Levaquin about 10 days ago. Could this be it? My dr warned me to watch for tendon problems, but I don't know that this is tendon related.
My dr is out of town until next week! My pain is so severe, and I'm not sure what to do. I think I'll stop the levaquin for now.
Anyone experience this? Its hard to tell if its even related to this stinking disease or medications!

I just had a similar kind of pain, but it was hard to say if it was my neck, my head or my jaw.
Nothing relieved it except getting to sleep.
I started Doxy about 3 weeks ago and was wondering if that caused it.
It's just now starting to let up.
If you can't get hold of your doctor, you could see if the nurse or your pharmacist can give you advice.

Heck yeah.... my neck pain is BAD. I didn't have bad neck pain either until we started lyme treatment. Particularly, until we started Mino and then that's when the neck pain started and since then it's never let up. I mean, there are days it's not bad, but it's always there. Some days really bad, other days so-so, etc.

This is my worst symptom.
I have not been able to sit upright in a chair for more than 15 minutes for 2.5 years now, because sitting makes it worse.
sometimes I get a burning sensation at the base of my skull...
I think neck pain is a common symptom of lyme, and like disturbme, mine didn;t start until after I started abx (ceftin at the time)

It was my worst symptom also...happened just after I started IV Rocephin. Horrible! Could hardly move my head back and forth. Lasted a couple days and was getting significantly better by day 3, pretty much gone day 4. But-it recurred in a milder form on and off for awhile.

Wow, thanks everyone. It must be from the levaquin. Like you, sick tick, I can hardly move my head and it hurts to even sit up.
I just found it strange to start today all of a sudden after I had been feeling so much better.

Sounds like you go to the same doc. He does normally answer his cell phone if you think it is serious. If you call the office after hours, his number is usually given there.
Try taking magnesium 3-4 hours after taking levaquin (magnesium makes levaquin less effective if taken at the same time, but you absolutely need magnesium), and if see if that helps you. Make sure it's a bioavailable form such as citrate or glycinate. Magnesium oxide isn't a very good form. If the tendonitis is severe, you can stop the levaquin until the pain subsides, and then restart it at a lower dose if possible. I'm not a doctor, so you may want to ask him for medical advice.

I use Aspercream; this may help relieve your pain somewhat. I know neck issues, they stink.

I had been much better when it happened as well. Curious, isn't it? Don't know if it was some sort of herx or not....

Did you stop the Rocephin?

Nope-I kept using it. Felt better after a few days, and felt nearly back to normal on the Rocephin after that, until I was done with the dose. Then, worse for a few days....then, progressively better ever since, with mild setbacks. Typical of this silly disease from what I read here!
Still, maybe you should have your MD check things out....especially if there is a fever, headache, nausea, etc.
