well my gastro's office called tonite. i've been going to him for 20 odd years so he knows me pretty well.

i gave them a very detailed description of offset of symptoms and current condition.

his nurse called and said they thought it sounded more like an infection or parasitic condition than ibs due to the extreme burning and pain.

so they are having me take this xifaxan three times a day for three days. she said if this doesn't help to call them back.

apparently this drug is used for colon conditions. i don't really know anything about it but have searched and found some of you have taken it.

one question tho -- i just started the humaworm. can i take it at the same time as this antibiotic? and again, since it's an abx, i should take tons of probiotics, right?

do they know you are on humaworm?

humaworm could be causing your gi discomfort, its some wicked powerful stuff.

good luck.

i just started the humaworm yesterday so i guess i could stop it, then do the abx.

i completely forgot to mention it, but the nurse did tell me "no fiber for awhile"...

An antibiotic will not kill parasites. You might just want to do the xifaxan since it's only for three days and then do the humaworm. Yes, I would take the probiotics also

I took xifaxan for small intestine bacterial overgrowth. I tolerated it well for a few weeks, which was a pretty huge deal considering my track record. Around week 4 though I started having syncope and had to stop. I want to try it again soon though. Good luck, let us know how it goes!

The humaworm likely includes a fiber product?

Gael has a good solution.

sure hope it helps!!

Do you think you got a parasite while on your trip?

I think the xifaxin is a great idea. I suffered from abdominal pain after 5 years of treatment, and I thought I couldn't take meds anymore. Then my doctor prescribed this xifaxin, but my instructions were three times a day for 10 days.

By the end of the 10 days, I felt so restored I was angry that this had not been tried earlier.

Combine your xifaxin with diflucan and probiotics, and you will feel very good.

I run this protocol everytime I feel like my insides are going to fall apart, and it does the trick.

I hope this helps you as much as it did me. I am about to start my 8th year of treatment....

take care,
Mary

What are your symptoms, specifically?

Have had a lot of burning pain gut issues in my house.

Randi,

I would also like to know what are your gut symptoms. Because my stomach has been destroyed for the past 8 months!

let's see.

it started with sore throat
got runny nose, just like water pouring out of it
low grade fever
then lost my voice, so hoarse
days of really bad watery diahhrea, smelly
severe abdominal cramps
then sharp stabbing abdominal pain in lower left side which moved across my abdomin under the navel to the right side.
then burning sensation like someone was pouring hot water in my lower abdomin.
no real fever, 99 or so

i don't know what it is, i would say initially the flu, but the abdominal issues are not flu. i thought diverticulitis or psueudomembranous colitis, which is a good possibility because of all the antibiotics i've been on.

but who can tell? i'm just hoping this xifaxan will help.

Good. It sounded like you needed Xifaxin or oral Vanco.

3 days isn't much, in the Xifaxin world, so if your symptoms come back - call your doc back.

I'd stay off the humaworm till you're done with the Xifaxin, and take your probiotics apart from it by a few hours.

Take your S. boulardii, too.

(And, yes - I've done Xifaxin, too... plus a ton of oral vanco...)

It sounds like a temporary infection, by the symptoms. Your immune system did respond to it, so that is a good sign.

It is not something I have dealt with, but I think odds are it will pass.

Probiotics won't hurt, in case it is something caused by lack of good bacteria.

I don't think taking Humaworm at this time, is a good idea with an already inflamed intestinal tract.

Turmeric is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial and completely safe to take, unless you are on blood thinners. It may help some with the inflammation in higher doses, and can't hurt in any case.
