Yep - I had this, too.

Strange smells would come and go - and the smell of something dead was the most unpleasant of all.

LLMD was not surprised, and said it was common.

Have you read Amy Tan? She wrote an essay about her experience with Lyme, and I think this was one of her symptoms, too.

I haven't had that experience but I read that zinc can help with your smell.

Your are probably super nose. They put onion in

Could also be you are yeasty and have oniony/garlicy BO. Seriously. Your urine may even smell the same way if you're yeasty.

Ugh! The dead rat smell. I had that for at least a year. Its one of my symptoms that disappeared and so far has not returned.

Odor is transmitted via the olfactory nerve, one of the cranial nerves, to the limbic system. You may want to read up on it. What happens to you, happens frequently, until your Autonomic Nervous System finds its balance again. Often heavy metal toxicity is involved also. Maybe check with your doctor.

Zinc deficiency may cause loss of sense of smell.

Take care.

I used to have unusually sensitive smell....but since Lyme, I first started smelling things that weren't there, like the burnt smell...now, I do not seem to smell stuff that everyone else does. I know that the Lyme affected my cranial nerves, so makes sense I guess...still weird.

I've always had a very accute sense of smell. Still do.

Only now I find myself smelling things that aren't there sometimes.

I was hoping it would go away over time, but now I wonder if it's the first step to "smelling loss".

I have to check on the zinc, too.

That's pretty interesting. I have these strange smells too.

I'm glad that I don't smell anything nasty. My phantom smells are all tasty Indian snack foods which I used to eat as a kid. It's way harder to get that in the US.

Hah! Now, if I was smelling something like baking cinnamon rolls or chocolate chip cookies, I wouldn't mind so much! Lucky you! Everything smelled burnt to me for months!

Last year after a bout with the flu. A friend asked me to smell her lilacs i smelled nothing. But some lilacs dont smell. A week or so later i had bought some perfume. Put some on and smelled nothing. I told hubby to save the box and reciept they sold me perfume that had no smell. LOL thank God i asked hubby before i made and idot out of my self. It was me.

I had taken zicam zinc tablets. They did work and i dont know if that or the cold caused it or lyme but i cant smell now.

Well i get phatom smells. Burning wire, at first shampoo, perfum, house glade etc had a weird chemical smell thats all i smelled. Still preaty much what i smell. Sometimes if i turned my head just so i could smell breifly. Sometimes i get whifs of familiar smells but my smell hasnt come back.

It has also made food taste different. I dont know how much of the taste is from memory or actual taste. Of coarse salt and sweet is normal.

Im hoping it is lyme and one day i get it back.
