I have a cousin with classic Lyme Symptoms except she also has swollen legs. She is very very ill, very fatigued, muscle and joint pain and can't walk well. All of her other symptoms are compatable with Lyme but not sure about the swollen legs.

She has had two "lupus" tests and was positive and she's also been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Polymyalgia Rhuematica.

Any ideas? She is on a few meds (including Predizone!) and keeps getting sicker. She knows there is more to this.

Any input would be appreciated.

One of my primary returning symptoms after I had gone through a three week course of doxy when I first got Lyme was swollen ankles. It was discounted as nothing by the duck that I went to but now looking back there was no explanation for it. I definitely think inflammation is a big part of Lyme and don't see why it can't occur in the legs.

Thank you wendihk - I appreciate your response.

I think I feel the same way.

My legs are often swollen, especially around the ankle, but also sometimes up to the knee .

I've just had a clear echocardiagram, so almost certainly my problem is the Lyme, the inflammation or clogged lymph.

The steroids your cousin is taking for the polymyalgia rheumatica may also be relevant in your cousin's case and she may find that this symptom improves somewhat as she tapers off steroids following the intermittent course of pm.

Thanks carry - I don't know if her legs were swollen prior to the predisone use or not - she said they seemed to help at first but she just keeps getting sicker and sicker.

Seek - my twin sister has it too as well as her SIL and niece!

its not unusual for several members of a family to get lyme there is a family near me in illinois that has 6 members and all of them have it.

there are two in my family comfirmed and a few more we suspect have it and are thinking of getting tested !

I had a similar thing with the swelling around the ankles while on cipro and flagyl the last time I did it and suspect it was water retention !

hi molly !

Thanks PJ!

I sure hope we can figure this out for my cousin.

I've been speaking to one of my nieces that has confirmed Lupus and it could be either one or something altogether different.

The medical community sure lets folks like us down, don't they?
