Hello all,

I am in a sticky situation. I got the seasonal flu vaccine a couple months ago and went downhill. I had a bartonella flare-up that I am currently treating. This was a big disappointment because I was planning on trying for a pregnancy soon.

Because I caught the flare-up rather quickly, my LLMD feels that one month of treatment with rifampin is all I need to get healthy for a pregnancy again.

I don't know if I should get the H1n1 vaccine or not. I regret the seasonal flu vaccine that I got and I probably would never do that again. However, the h1n1 has been quite dangerous for pregnant women (many have died) and I fear getting pregnant without the vaccine protection. I also really fear how my body will react again to the vaccine.

I have one LLMD (well-known one) telling me not to get the h1n1 unless I get pregnant. But this doesn't make sense to me because I wouldn't want to deal with a lyme flare-up while pregnant. I also get pregnant really easily and so I know as soon as I try, I'll get pregnant.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't take the vaccine, but that's just my opinion.

After I got pregnant the first time, my doc ran a test and found out that my antibodies for German Measles were low.
Even though I had had the disease as a child.

So, right after I gave birth, he ordered the vaccine for me.

The next morning I woke up with a painful wrist.
It hurt so much that I had trouble picking up my son.

That progressed to both wrists, both ankles and knees.

I believe the vaccine stirred something up.

Thanks Carol,

But what about the fact that the h1n1 flu could kill me if I caught it while I'm pregnant. I mean, right now I think I'm trying to weight the risks of possibly being killed vs. probably having a symptom flare.

Does that make sense?

I'm disabled from the flu shot. There is no reason for anyone to ever get any vaccine period! http://www.thinktwice.com/studies.htm

The mercury in these vaccines and the stuff added are very, very bad for anyone.

If you know what to do to ward off pneumonia, that is the most important thing to consider with any flu. It's often the pneumonia that develops that is the worst threat, not necessary the virus.

Staying one step ahead and being very proactive if pneumonia develops is the key.

Do you also have a LL ND (naturoathic doctor) who could work with you.

If you do decide on the vaccine, there are many things you can do to help your body not be so harmed by the additives and you

should DEMAND a thimerisol-free vaccine. Thimerisol is the mercury.

-------

I suffered very severe consequences - and permanent ones from a couple vaccines, one a regular flu shot, another was tetanus booster.

Very serious neuro stuff, including the start to a seizure disorder.

I think there are many other ways to protect ourselves and a good ND is one of the best experts in that.

Please go to www.mercola.com and search this topic.

It may be at the Mercola site, but if not, Also search for Dr. Tom Blaylock's video about this. He is a MD, neurologist who says these vaccines are not safe for anyone - anyone.

As well, there are other doctors who say that patients with lyme should never get a vaccine because of the immune dysfunctions they have.

You said that you . . ."got the seasonal flu vaccine a couple months ago and went downhill"

I think that is information to pay attention to and could be a big red flag regarding your body's reaction to future exposures.

Again, it may not be so much the vaccine as all the other stuff in it. It is not benign by any stretch.

Good luck gathering your research materials and making this decision. I know it's not any easy one to make.

The link that pryorka posted (below) - that is EXACTLY what happened to me twice. I was shocked when I saw that video as it could have been one me (were I to ever have had a trim body).

No one made the connection and it took years both times for this to settle down.

the walking backwards was the oddest thing. I only could run few steps if I had to but I could jaunt into action if a bus were coming at me (although that was the end to being able to cross the street. I still can't walk around any traffic, 12 years after my last flu shot).

This is not a one in million chance. Not at all.

The worst part, too, is that the stammering speech - it's very hard to think to talk, still. Unbelievable. And I had no help from any doctor around any of this.

Had I not had undiagnosed lyme, it may not have hit me so hard, but even she was seemingly very healthy.

the swine flu has been so blown out of proportion. I agree with everyone else. Don't get it!!

If you are worried, take some olive leaf extract or some other kind of natural immune booster.

You can find all kinds of products out there.

I go to my local health food store when I need something, and they are very knowledgeable about what would be appropriate for you.

Peace...Christie

Natural killers, no vaccine at all!!!

There's no proof that any vaccination against flu protects anyone against the flu.

Absolutely no evidence that Flu vaccinations prevent death from the Flu. None.

No double blind studies. The statistics that do exist, support the position that they do not prevent death from the Flu.

Tamiflu also has no studies proving that it does any good against the Flu either. Neither is evidence based medicine, if that is what you are after.

That is a hard decision.

I keep hoping I'll catch swine flu before I get pregnant, so I can get the antibodies without a) getting the vaccine or b) risking getting swine flu while pregnant.

Seriously, I have thought catching it now would be the ideal situation.

If I HAD to choose, I would choose NOT to get the vaccine, and while pregnant, be very careful....when in public places, do not touch your eyes (you can pick up bugs via touching the eyeball), don't touch your mouth, and don't eat without thoroughly washing hands. Also while pregnant, don't be around anyone who is sick.

This isn't "medical advice" of course, but it's what I think I would do, because I had a bad reaction from a vaccine, and so it's something I just don't think I can do to myself again.

Or, you could wait until swine flu has really died down (like if the rates are expected to drop even further in spring or summer) to get pregnant. I would think that would leave you less likely to get infected with it while pregnant, if fewer people are actively carrying it.

I agree with Hoosiers last statement. I would not get the vaccine and would hold off on getting pregnant till flu season is over.

In the meantime, you could look into some of the natural flu preventives to take when you are ready to get pregnant.

The circulating virus is not seasonal flu. I would

estimate less than 1& of seasonal flu is being

reported. H1N1 has been a learning experience. Have

they learned anything-I don't think so. It may take a long time to put it all together. This one has proven to be able to change all the rules.

Hoosiers,

I agree with your advice to some extent. I, too, in some ways feel like it would be easier just to catch it now and then I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.

My LLMD(very well-known one) has suggested to me that I not get the H1N1 shot unless I get pregnant. This just doesn't make that much sense to me. With the seasonal flu shot, I had a lyme flare-up. Bartonella got bad again and I had to go back on rifampin. If this happened to me while I'm pregnant, I would be very limited in what meds I could take to feel better again. Also, it doesn't seem healthy for the baby to be exposed to a lyme flare-up.

He feels that it's important, though for pregnant women to get the vaccine because it's so dangerous for them to get this h1n1 flu. It's pretty much the only group that he's recommending get the vaccine.

I get pregnant quickly so I know that once I try, I will get pregnant right away so it's not an issue of if, but when.

Topaz,

At first, I thought I would just wait to get pregnant until flu season is over and skip the h1n1 vaccine altogether. However, my doctor is speculating that h1n1 will probably be the predominant flu we see for the next few years because people are so suseptible to it. So, I guess there's really no riding it out until it's over, if that makes sense.

Wait Keebler I'm confused. Why on Earth would you ever get another vaccine after the first one did that to you? That's like shooting yourself in the head and somehow managing to live, then doing it again. You're saying you got one vaccine that disabled you, recovered over years, then later got another vaccine????? Where you forced into it? I don't know where you're from so I wondered if you live somewhere that forces people to get vaccinated.

My LLMD recommends not to get this shot.
Vaccines etc always make me sicker and stir the pot.
Also, are you well enough to become pregnant?
This is from someone who lost a baby because of lyme.

My LLMD has been preparing me for a pregnancy for two years. He gave me the "go ahead" about 3 months ago. I am doing very well, but had a recent setback due to receiving a flu shot.

I recovered from my "set back" within 3 days of re-starting rifampin.

pryorka,

You asked a good question about why I'd take another vaccine years after a problem with one?

I did not know until I could compare the similar reactions.

I had been told by the first doctor that it was the horse serum in the vaccine that damaged me the first time. I didn't know about mercury then (1987) . . .

So, with the next vaccine, I was sure to avoid horse serum but - whammo + de ja vu !

Still, that doctor - and all the others to follow always said I could not have had that reaction to vaccines. It took many mistakes - and then finally was introduced to a good MD and some good literature - before I could piece this all together.

It is very important to knock bart out of your system before pregnancy. You can't treat bart while pregnant, and babies born with bart can have severe neuro difficulties.

I had bart, babs and lyme and thankfully had a disease free baby. The key is to knock the disease down before pregnancy and start meds before you get pregnant.
I used bicillin 3x week and had a lyme free baby.

I've read reports that the h1n1 is suspected of causing miscarriages in pregnant women. Here is just one site I found with testimonials, but I've seen this on several different sites. Just google it and determine for yourself.

I wouldn't get it, but that's just me.

Ahh I wondered. That was a while back before a good number of people were getting educated on vaccines. I'm three years into my vaccine injury and still have a long way to go to become functional again. I can't believe anyone that reads this board would ever consider getting a vaccine.

I'd have to say though a miscarriage is much better than bringing a disabled child into the world simply because parents made a poor decision... what I mean is, it's better that the vaccine kills the baby in some cases rather than let it live but severely damage it for life.

All vaccines contain so many unsafe additives and toxins that any may cause a set back in your lyme treatment.

I researched vaccines (including flu and h1n1) for a few months. After all that I read I will not get another vaccine, or give any more to my kids or even my pets for that matter.

Here are a few links of many that I have.

Oh and take vitamin D3!! My entire family has been taking it since summer and not one of us (3 lymies) has even gotten a cold let alone a flu.

We all take 4000 IU a day. You can take more then that though. Go to Dr Mercola's site and do a search for vitamin D3 to get more info on the dosages.
