I was getting to the point of thinking I didn't have Lyme or co-infections and my doctor suggested that maybe I had Babesia. I don't have money to do alot of testing & he said most of the tests are not accurate in any case.

I'm waiting to get the prescriptions (since he has to mail them) & I figured I'd go back to the Nutramedix Quina (which is a form of quinine - in case you don't know). Since Babs is a protozoa & it's similar to malaria...

The full dose is 30 drops, twice a day. I took 5 drops & it kicked my butt. I must be hitting something here.

What have you experienced with this tincture or any other form of quinine? Why isn't it more widely prescribed?

I didn't get any results from it, but since it's kicking your butt, I'd say you most likely are.

I used tonic water. It's very low-dose quinine, but when I was going through photon treatment and was off babs meds, it helped me manage the symptoms. I used a good quality tonic water from Whole Foods that had no corn syrup. Fever Tree tonic water has the natural quinine from the bark, it's not artificial like cheaper tonics.

I would say too. if its kicking your butt ... you are on to something and try to stick with it and see if you can get up to dose and see if it will help you breakthrough your symptoms too.

Good Luck.. and I heard through Six here that that brand is very good..

I am trying to add in GSE of that brand as well and it seems to be very high quality and effective.

You got me thinking of trying what your trying as well because i have felt that protozoans are a big issue for me such as babesia and fry bug too...

Keep in touch and let us know how you progress..

I take Quinine...the brand is called Qualaquin, which is what I'm taking. I also started Clindamycin on the same day.

The first 5 days, basically nothing happened.

Then on day 6, I experienced unusual fatigue (more than my normal fatigue).

THEN, on day 10, I woke up with literally the worst headache of my life (and I have had migraines before), and it hurt the back of my head/neck to tilt my chin down or up.

So basically, I interpreted that as encephalitis, though I didn't go to the ER, because I knew it was a herx and there was nothing they could do, and also, surprisingly, ibuprofen helped it. (surprising beccause I didn't know someone's head could hurt that bad and they could not be dead, yet ibuprofen helped)

Then, after couple days of the headaches, back of neck aches, again, nothing.

I've been taking this combo for about 2 1/2 months, and nothing new since the headache/neckache epidsode on days 10-12.

So it's like a one-and-done herx. So, my LLMD decided to now pulse those two drugs, upping my quinine dose slightly, to see if we can get the drugs to "do something" again. I know I still have babesia because I have occasional nightmares and night sweats and air hunger....

What's strange is I didn't come out of that herx feeling better, so that is suggesting to me that maybe my day-to-day symptoms are not due to babesia. Because with Bart herxes, I come out of them with a higher level of overall health.

But the point is that either Quinine or Clindamycin did do something.

Also, I have taken Nutramedix Enula, and have had surprisingly bad herxes from that. Those were very clearly babesia herxes, because they included getting air hunger for the first time.

Now, I'm no longer herxing on Enula, though I continue to take it daily, since I'm pulsing the other babesia stuff.

I'm thinking that if I can't get my pharmaceutical Quinine to do more for me, I'll add in the Quina.

At this point, I'm willing to throw anything at it. Mepron and Malarone have not been effective enough. I read on LymeMD's blog that Lariam is an option for people like me, so that is on my list of things to try next.

While I don't think babesia is responsible for my worst symptoms, I still would like to get rid of it....sick of testing positive, sick of getting symptoms of it once or twice a week, when I would like to have a baby some day.

I just bought the quinine powder from raintree and ktbotanicals. That stuff at nutramedix is a huge ripoff as far as price goes.

Yeah, I know (re: ripoff). I was in a program where they gave me the herbs for free...

May be a good idea to try the powdered bark. Let us know how it goes! You can make your own tinctures or tea. I think it's very bitter.

I don't think tonic water would be strong enough after a while. I think it came about as a remedy for malaria.

I never had any of the usual symptoms of Babesia. Just something to think about. I herxed alot from the Cumanda a while ago. I never really herxed from the Enula but it did cause me to purge my bowels. Samento made me feel better - less pain...

Seems everyone has different responses.

No, I don't think the tonic is enough for treatment, but it did give some symptom relief.

Hoosiers - migraines are a symptom of Babesia. Seems a likely response from any anti-Babs medication.

When you have a few things going on, it's hard to know what is killing what or how your body is responding to it. I'm not sure if there's an order to getting rid of pathogens. Some doctors suggest that there is. Maybe largest to smallest? I'm not sure.

I don't know if you have to get rid of mercury toxicity first or how the order goes - or even if it does make a difference. I don't think there are any studies about this. Probably just anecdotal evidence.

There's always some excuse like "you didn't do it long enough or the dose wasn't high enough or you still have other toxins or you didn't get rid of the co-infection, virus, pathogen first, second, etc."

I don't know if these are really excuses but you never know what is what when you are dealing with alot of variables. You just have to keep chipping away as best as you can.
