Last Saturday I was at a friend's house playing WII. We were playing a shooting game. After about five minutes of moving my eyes back and forth, I got vertigo-like symptoms. Two days ago, while watching TV and talking to my wife, yes, guys, it's possible, the tv program wasn't too good [Wink] ,after looking at her and the tv repeatedly, same thing. Is this a condition of chronic lyme or have I opened another can of worms altogether? Any comments are greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Don.

I've had similar symptoms too, and I can get them from video games, TV/movies, riding in the car, or just turning around too quickly.

I've done best for long periods of time with no television and no computer. I don't think either is good for anyone, actually.

Some of those TV games can trigger seizures in some people, too. So be careful if you feel dizzy from them. You may be able to do those later but a full vestibular work-up is best first. AND be sure to tell your LLMD about this.

Yes, many - if not most - patients with lyme have disabling vestibular symptoms. Other TBD (tick-borne diseases) are also to blame.

It's really best NOT to expose your eyes and brain to fast moving out-of-this world stuff. The natural world sometimes was even more than I could handle, if a bird flew across my line of sight or startled me.

Hopefully, your experience will be just a blip on the screen and if you avoid the computerized special effects for a while you may do okay. But you want to treat this with the utmost reverence and respect as your inner/middle ear system really does rule EVERYTHING you do: reading, walking, thinking, etc.

And it's also likely about the excitatory response from your brain &/or adrenal system. That's on overdrive from lyme toxins. Magnesium and Fish oil are good to help settle that down. A lyme patient can't take too much of an adrenal rush. And those computer - TV - movie - special effects creations and games are all about an ADRENAL RUSH. That's the hook. Not good with lyme.

Good luck.

phone ringing. more later. Lots here:

that was one of my worst symptoms, i couldnt watch tv for nearly 3 months, just the movement on tv was terrible, computer anything like that, then it went away it was just on moving, couldnt drive for nearly 3 months either, then this week i have noticed it again, only slightly but there......i know my ears and vestibular system are fine did all the testing, just down to the lyme unfortunatley......hoping its not something that continues to come and go.....

I get that too.....just recently happened at the movie theater, sat too close to the front and the film was subtitled. My eyes moving from one side of the screen to the other made me so dizzy and sick.

Me too...

Though, I can do the Wii balance games. Went to vestubular therapy and they use it there in some cases.

For the past ten years I've had problems with vertigo--before I knew I had lyme. Vestibular rehab was useless. Antivert--useless.

I got vertigo while taking cefdinir, super artemesissisisisisn, samento, and the thing that brought it on was the final drug, minocin. Couldn't walk a straight line or deal with any movement--car, tv.

It felt different from my non-treatment days when I would feel the vertigo bunch up on me as I walked. Also had the rocking boat feeling. Rolling in space feeling when lying down.

Used to work in TV editing video. I've had stretches of time when I could do it. I think those days are over. Bright screens, hi refresh rates, fastforwarding, lots of camera movement (think The Blair Witch project)=big trouble.

I even had a bubble headed vertigo today. Like, the driver is in the car but can't control the wheel--like skidding on snow. Now I feel like I have the wheel back after being in bed all afternoon.

I don't know if I hate panic or the vertigo more!!!! I think vertigo is the winner. And I take tons of magnesium and krill oil.

Maybe I need to constantly get B12 shots.

Minocycline is known to cause vertigo. B-6 and NAC have been used in some control studies to see if that could prevent the vertigo and nausea from Mino and the study showed that it did help.

The doses for B-6 or for NAC were not available but it certainly shows that the liver is instrumental as NAC helps the liver make more glutathione. B-6 is calming to the nervous system.

The panic can be a RESULT of the inner ear stress and the signals to the brain that get scrambled. Inner ear dysfunction of various kinds can cause very severe anxiety.

The brain has no way to correct the signals - and interprets it as an earthquake sort of event with signals that are all mixed up. The body reacts in an understandable adrenal shock, hence the feeling of panic is truly a cascade from a physiological jumble.

Ginger can be of some help but it is truly very complex. However, I simply have to fully avoid any and all drugs that cause any sort of problem with my ears.

Keebler, I read that Aminoglycosides are ototoxic and Zithro made me really noise sensitive and caused eardrum pain.
Do you have a full list of the abx that would cause vertigo/affect the ears?
I have an Abx Spreadsheet that I found and posted but they weren't so good in the adverse effects column.

What is NAC?

I would say it could be from Lyme.
