Hi,

I first got lyme in Jan 2007 and after 12 months of abx therapy and 7 months of salt/c therapy am back to about 85-90%.

For the last 3-4 months however, I have started getting hormonal pimples, retaining fluid (which I have in the past from the contraceptive pill not agreeing with my hormones). I have also started to shed a fair bit of hair. I know the fluid retention is not related to salt/c as it is cyclical and I've had it prior to salt/c from hormonal problems and i was also on the salt for a few months before this started.

I know lyme supresses your hormones. Could it be that my hormonal levels are now returning to normal and my body is once again getting used to the higher levels, kinda like going through puberty again?? I've kinda got my mojo back too [Big Grin]

I got pimples, etc when I was pregnant from the increase in hormones. I also lost hair after giving birth and I read that this is because when you are pregnant oestrogen levels drop so you don't loose your hair like you normally do, then when you give birth and your hormones return to normal, it falls out again.

I don't have a LLMD, but my doctor thinks this could be the case. Anyone else had this?

Input appreciated.

Thanks

Kelly

My hormones felt like they were off balance, too. I though it might be peri-menopause. I got pimples too. I'm 48 & I felt like a teenager.

I started taking an herbal female hormone blend & it seems to be getting better.

My hormone feel all messed up. Yet, testing shows all is normal.

There are so many hormones in the body besides the 2 well known progesterone and estrogen that really I think you'd have to be a genius to figure it out.

Thyroid should be taken into consideration since it has a lot to do with hormones.

Hair falling out can be a lyme symptom or a thyroid problem. Pimples can go away when on abx and return when off of them.

Babesia can cause hormone-like issues too.

Amazing, hu? Too many possibilities.

Lyme often affects the hypothalamus pituitary axis and thus various hormone levels.

When hubby did IV Primaxin during the IV he sometimes became sexually excited -- we always thought it meant the antibiotic was getting into his brain and trying to balance things out.

For the first 1 1/2 years he was sick before he was diagnosed just about the only thing the docs could find wrong with him was low testosterone and low levels of several other hormones -- estrogen, progesterone etc -- men need those too but at lower levels.

At that time he tried treating with DHEA, progesterone cream, testosterone shots and creams and more -- but nothing worked to balance things. His doc at the time felt that his liver was not converting the various hormones as it should. We just kind of gave up on this after a year or so. Have continued with DHEA off and on but that is about all.

Hope things balance out and get back to normal for you soon.
