HI, I have been diagnosed with Lyme disease and I have been taking 200 mg doxy 2 times a day and 250mg flagy 3 times a day since the end of Oct.
Are these doses high enough. I have not been tested for co-infections by my lyme doctor, but a kineseologist said that I have 5 co-infections.
My doctor said he doesn't change up the meds very often like other doctors do.

I think your dosages are pretty much right on......
And also a good combo to cover many bases..I would stay on it for awhile.
I have been on a ton of various abx by now.. and I think that I might choose those two if I had to choose two to go on with.
That is if I could stay on IV treatments... I dont know about Orals.......
Good Luck..with it.. and if you do not feel it is doing anything or you are not progressing after a good 4 months it might be good to talk to your doctor and ask him about changing it up?

Sounds pretty good. To find anyone who knows anything about Lyme in SD is a rare find... so count your blessings!
You may need to provide him with info on lyme from time to time.
Does he have a copy of Dr B's treatment guidelines?

Thank you for the info. I actually have to travel 4 hours away into Minn.
I haven't asked what guidelines he follows. That is a good question for him next time I visit.

MN isn't much better. Too many Mayo Clinic followers there. They "don't do Lyme."

This is not a bad combo or dose in my opinon, but if you can tolerate more Doxy, I'd do it, most LLMD's recommend 400 mg per day.
My son was a good example, he lingered when he was 200mg of Doxy and then really herxed and started getting better when he bumped the dose to 400mg. Flagyl he did seperately. Your dose of Flagyl looks good, although some might be doing higher doses.
I would say this combo covers LD and many different co-infections, in fact most. I was just talking w/my LLMd yesterdy about Flagyl and all that it covers, a lot, so does Doxy.
I think doses are individualized as what medications should be used, it should be based on what is making you feel better and what you can tolerate. I also don't think swithching abx a lot (more than every 3 months) is a good idea, it took many months for a combo to work for me.
If you aren't showing progress in a few months, bump the doses are switch meds might help. There are endless combo's and finding the right one for you is the goal.

I think dosage should be individualtzed, according to your history, your ability to handle medications, your weight and many other aspects of you as an individual.
Everyone is different and therefore I don't believe there can be one set dosage for all ppl.
This is where trusting your doctors good judgement and expertise comes into play.

It's not as important to change things around as it is to be making progress. As long as you're progressing on the meds you are on, no reason to change them. Once you are at a standstill, then talk to him about changing things around or hitting co's. IMO, but I'm not a doc.

I think she/he is taking 400 mg a day. 2 X 200mg. Right? That should be a good dose.
I will bump my 200mg IV to 400mg soon.
I think IV doxy is going to be a good one! I will slowly add Flagyl.
