I am being evaluated by an ID doctor re: viral infection.
My Echovirus 30 AB test came back high at 1:8 which apparently can be indicative of a past or recent infection. (Focus Lab)
My coxsackie A results were uninterpretable due to anti-complementary and anti-tissue activity which occurs in individuals with autoimmune diseases. (otherwise autoimmune labs are normal)
So the ID doc feels that this offers an explanation for my 10 month long ongoing illness that started with a strange viral infection (chills, aches, neck agony, fatigue) and progressed to chest pain, hip pain, leg weakness (now resolved) Raynaud's, severe fatigue. She describes it now that my immune system is still firing from the aftermath of this virus.
I am being treated for lyme. I have a clear cycle of increased pain/symptoms when my antibiotic is increased followed by an improvement in my baseline.
I am having trouble finding info on this virus and the diagnostic criteria. She had nothing she could offer me aside from retrying anti-inflammatory drugs or steroids.
Given that I got sick in 10/09 and the labs were done in 12/09, what is your opinion on this?

Some say when the lyme is gone, the other stuff has a better chance of taking care of itself.
If you are having an autoimmune reaction you could try steroids and or plaquenil to slow it down. Most advise against steroids when you have lyme though.
What does you LLMD say about this?

Steroids didn't work early on and now I know they are bad news. Will be on Plaquenil in the spring.
Have not seen my doc yet this month.
Hoping some virus savy folks will see this and reply with additional info...

According to Dr. U, who trained with Dr. K, viruses LOVE injured tissues.
www.inno-vita.com and / or www.systemicformulas.com have mixed herbals that nail viruses very well, IMO. You can call them for local practitioners in your area that have their products.

so is echovirus a virus that can stick with you for along time? a titer of 1:8 would indicate that you are still infected?
I was under the impression that the virus itself was shortlived but the aftermath could be extended.
