We just had my daughter tested for this, at a lab in Germany.

Her LLMD thinks it might be a contributing factor in her illness, especially since she has OCD.

Does anyone else have experience with this?

I have searched the archives and there isn't much there.

Hubby tested positive for this 3 or 4 times. The lab which used to test for this in the U.S. has been closed for a couple of years now.

Hubby has been on amantadine for about 7 years. Not really sure this med is doing anything for the infection or not since haven't been able to retest.

Please post the info on the lab which tested you as I would be interested in getting hubby tested.

Ribavirin is another antiviral used with this infection. Hubby took that for a month I think, but it was pretty expensive and since we couldn't get the infection retested we just decided to continue on the amantadine.

I remember someone telling me there was a video on borna virus posted on some other website -- maybe the cpn website but not sure -- couldn't watch the video as my computer does not have enough memory to watch videos.

I really probably should do more research on this but there has been almost nothing published since the intitial interest when the virus was discovered in humans around 2000 or so.

Thanks for the post. My 5 year old has OCD too (along with Lyme, etc..). Is that a common symptom or this virus? Has your LLMD indicated other possible causes?

tick battler,

I think the virus has mostly been found in CFS and schizophrenic patients. Very little research in humans -- mostly in Japan and in Germany (Borna is a town in Germany which is where the name came from). Causes tremors and movement disorders in animals and is fatal to horses and some other species of animals I think.

There is some more info and links in this old thread I posted several years ago.

I personally think the virus can be tickborne although that has not been proven. It is found in birds also.

Yes, that is the lab I used.

Her LLMD hasn't really said what else can cause the OCD, other than TBD. He just thought we should look into this as well.

I don't know yet how he will address this. When I asked him before he said possibly amantadine or other anti-virals, natural or pharmaceutical.

Gigi - Thanks so much for this! Very interesting that Dr. K found 6 of 6 of his autistic patients had this. I need to read the entire article later tonight...but do you know if he uses the German lab for this testing? Do you know what he uses to treat this?

Thanks again,
tickbattler

Dr. K. includes The Borna Virus in the category of Opportunistic Infections, The Herpes, EBV, Mycoplasm, etc.

He mentioned at the last Oct 09 conference that Borna Virus respoonds well to KPU treatment.

Here http://www.neuraltherapy.com/LymeProtocolOct09.pdf
you will find most treatments he uses for the virals. I myself got rid of all literally with freeze dried garlic for a year or longer. I did not have Borna, but everything else and extremely high EBV.

All his decisions are based on ART fitted to the patient.

I do not know which lab he uses for Borna, if any, besides ART. It depends on the individual situation.

Hope you find your answers, tick.

Take care.

In the information link above

http://www.shg-bergstrasse.de/html/Borna/bornatest.html

they talk about having had good diagnostic results with either Bicom diagnostic or kinesiology.
Of course only with experienced practicioners.

quote:
They say, that Dr. Klinghardt has test series, that not only detect the virus but also indicate, in which part of the body the bug is present.

The tests are not for seropositivity, but rather, if specific symtoms are to be related to the bug.

These tests are proven to be accurate by being rechecked, they say.
