I have a kidney infection and have been given a shot of rocephin, and am on my second round of abx.

I have some flagyl in the house, would it be wise to take one at some point during the abx therapy to help prevent c-diff.?

I am prone to all kinds of intestinal problems.

Thanks.

isn't c-diff a yeast infection?

A cyst busting anti-biotic isn't going to do anything to ward off yeast. If I have that right it'll just kill that many more bacteria in your gut and leave you more vulnerable.

S boulardii prevents c diff. Sorry about the kidney infection, they are very painful!

C.diff is NOT a yeast infection. Wow. Make sure you are taking FLorastor to help prevent c.diff.
Stay away from clindamycin...its the # 1 offender.
Make sure you are on probiotics.

It would more wise to take Florastor (saccharomyces boulardii) and good probiotics, such as Natures Way Primadophilus Optima or VSL#3, I take all 3 for over 3 years and so far so good.

If you are worried about yeast, tell your LLMd your concerns and maybe he would put you on Diflucan or Nystatin as a preventative, but it needs to be taken way away from the probiotics/saccharomyces boulardii.

C diff is an intestinal bacterial infection which is caused by use of certain antibiotics, the cephalasporins (I am on cephalexin) are one the main ones that cause it. It causes chronic diarrhea which is very hard to tx.

It is a not a yeast problem, though that will probably become an issue as well. That I can deal with, it's the c-diff I'm concerned about.

I am allergic to brewers yeast which is in S. Boullardi, so I wondered about the Flagyl which is used to treat c-diff, and if anyone had experience with using it as a tx.

I had heard of one llmd that gave his pts. one flagyl a week to prevent it. Maybe that's what I'll do along with some theralac for yeast.

Yes, Pinelady, they did a culture, the results aren't back yet.

They tested for lymphocytes which were elevtated and sent it off to be cultured.

Thanks everyone for your advice.
