My mother in law (Irene) 84 years in good spirt and health except Lyme - been thru IV antibiotics - lyme confirmed with spinal tap -but she can not walk due to neuropahthy caused by LD. In a nursing home undergoing physical therapy... progressed rapidly this fall from a cane to walker to wheelchair. Now can not stand on her own - very painful for all of us to see as Irene was an avid gardner, walker and swimmer.
We are trying to get appointment with LLD on CapeCod (Dr Donta)
anyone have any experience with the possiblity of recovery and if so the time frame?

did you think about ALS, can be caused by infections.

they tested for many things before determining it was LD - not sure if ALS was looked for - I will look into it

From the time the neuro stuff affected my legs and my ability to walk until the time it was gone was roughly 3 years. That was taking oral antibiotics the whole time. It was a gradual healing.

You should look into benfotiamine for neuropathy. It helped my neuropathy a lot, but mine was much milder of course.

I used a wheelchair for outings but I mostly layed around at home being so sick with co-infections. I am now back to work full time and I can walk and I can feel my socks on my feet again! Without treatment I would not be better.

I would say she is being under treated. The Dr. D would be great.
These are old, but you have to remember how bad the testing can be in some.

readmccarty Which antibiotics was she on? In fact, what antibiotics has she been on for the last year or so?. Depending on the medicines, the sharp decline of her could be a side effect. Some antibiotics have symptoms of delayed toxicity that match well with what you have experienced with her health.
