- This is not just a "supplement for men" but essential for everyone.
Yes, it's good but it is best to take in BRAZIL NUTS, 2-3 a day, first thing in the morning.
Selenium can easily be TOXIC if the dose is too high - and that can be overdone very easily - so best with a balanced formula, not alone. Even better in food like Brazil Nuts.
Let your LL PA guide you here. Don't just go choosing this one on your own as there are many things to consider and your LL PA may already have you taking this in another formula. -

Keebler,
Whats ur opinion of too much? (and why it's bad)
I get 600mcg/day in supplements and I eat 8 eggs(yolk too)/day
I probably get 700mcg of selenium/day.
Street, What's your reason for wanting to supplement selenium if I may ask?
keebelr is right in that minerals work better in conjunction with other vit and minerals.

- canefan17,
Too much is toxic to the brain and nerve cells.
The doses can be found in research articles, and comparing a couple to be sure they basically agree. I'm not familiar with the numbers but know that it can be toxic if too much is taken and that it can be a fine line.
Brazil nuts are the golden egg for getting a good dose (just 2-3 nuts, though), with other fatty acids and proteins all in one package in a natural source like our bodies best appreciate.
Many article here - yes, they do sell products, however, their articles usually have lots of good solid independent citations to back up their work.

From what I read - it's amazing stuff! If you take a multi-vitamin with selenium, you should be OK. I think we need about 200mcg per day.
If you are deficient, it's good to take more but I'm not sure why you would take 700mcg over a long period of time. Do you have a particular health issue?
A few brazil nuts a day is a good idea. People who don't get enough selenium have a higher rate of cancer. There are studies about it. So, not getting enough can be dangerous...

Selenium is good for thyroid. Helps with conversion of T4 to T3
That's typically why I take it.
If I were you I would do like Keebler said and eat brazil nuts. no reason to add another supplement.
If you eat eggs eat the yolk- high in selenium.

FYI - I believe that you need more than 25mcg per day.
