followed up w/ llmd just the other day...No new complaints. Taking zith 500 1xday and just added mepron 12 days ago. I started herxing day 5 into mepron, but my Irritability has increased that I'm scared. Just the littlest thing is setting me of [confused] f! I have young kids, and my patience is paper thin. What's happening? Does anyone know if Mepron can cause this? or could this just be the lyme? I've never had this level of irrtiability before...what could this be? could this be part of a herx?

Are you taking something like Welbrutrin (sp) or some kind of an antidepressant? You definitely could be having a herx from the Mepron and it could be what's increasing your irritability.

Our previous LMMD felt it was important for his patients who had these issues to be on antidepressants to help keep them calm. He also felt that if anxiety became and issue he'd prescribed xanax, and if pain was an issue he'd prescribe pain medication.

He believes that all of these issues need to be addressed otherwise you suffer more than you need to with herxes, etc.

Others may suggest natural remedies that could be helpful to you. Maybe Keebler will come on and make some helpful suggestions as she always does.

Don't mess with antidepressants.

Just try to tough it out. It's only temporary.

There are many ways to address the symptoms but, still, treatment can be toll. Do you have help with your children and domestic chores? Just as if this were cancer, you need a community support system and I hope you can find that - maybe ask a couple friends to create a support system for your family.

To address symptom: Magnesium, Fish oil, Curcumin all help with stress but what is your liver support? What is your adrenal support. What is your nutrition? Are you getting enough rest - several times throughout the day, not just at night?

SUPPORT matters are vital.

Thanks for your help! I'm feeling better today...not sooo jumpy! As for the suggestion of anti-depressants, I will do all in my power to avoid that road! I'm already taking I feel too many meds. I'm greatful that I am able to recongize that something's a little off! I have alot of support, I just have to speak up a little more...I just like doing for other's rather then them doing for me!! But a soak in the tub w/epsom salts and reading a good book and sleep last night did me some good today!
I hope this is still a herx and not a chemical imbalance....

I've been feeling that way for months. Just got diagnosed for bartonella two weeks ago.

Now that I've been on antibiotics for 7 days, it's worse.

Could you have bart?

I've had 2 co-infection blood tests, and they indicate lyme and echichia. Going back next month to llmd and I'm going to insist to test again....maybe it's bart too! I'm praying that it's just part of a herx reaction since I just added mepron 2wks ago. But feeling better today!
Did u just start treatment for Bart?

I tested negative for bart. I think it actually "came out" at the end of treatment for lyme while on zith.

That was in Aug of 07. Temp over 100 for a week, headache and one odd rash. Didn't see LLMD. Seemed ok after that.

Feeling off for about a year now. Then rash appeared and this time LLMD saw it and identified it on that plus the 24/7 headache, etc.

Jenn, don't expect to get a positive test for bart--it doesn't always show up even though you have it. And you don't have to have a rash. I guess I was lucky it showed up.

Guess I thought mepron was for babesia?

There are over 200 strains of bartonella and the labs only test for two so of course many of us with bart don't know it because our test was negative. Go by symptoms!

When you attack bart you have emotional herxes. I was also easily irritated and flew into a rage a couple of times. I would go the other way too, feeling like life was just passing me by and I was not engaged with it in any way.

Last year when I did levaquin I was a mess emotionally but I came out of it and began to enjoy life again except for the fact that L gave me tendonitis which hurt like heck. Although I could not sleep because of the aching in my shoulder, I still planned things, was motivated towards goals and was basically happy. I slowly relapsed back into the gloom and the physical symptoms came back too. I started abx again and now four months into it I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel again.

Look into the other symptoms like headache, aching shins, hot flashes, sore eyes, skin changes. . . .

Have you seen this??

Mepron Blues
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/89042?

I'd bet lots of money it's part of a herx.

If you ever have to take anti-depressant, consider a tri-cyclic. The SSRI's have many more side effects than the older tri-cyclic meds.

Florence....sorry i was sending u a priviate message and it sent before i finished. take a look at the post from lymetoo about mepron!
I'm glad i started the mepron, because I wasn't convinced that just the zith was doing enough. Feeling better, just a few weird things here and there, that don't last long, and i think it's just the lyme reacting to the increase and mepron. but overall.....i'm happy! good luck, and keep me posted! FYI....when taking the mepron it's not as bad as other's have posted....it looks worse than it tastes. good luck.
