it seems i haven't slept well in weeks. i have eye twitching and facial, well, really it's all around my eyes, above and below and nose, that twitches and jerks at night.

also my temples.

it is so bad i can't sleep. and that dang ambien is utterly useless. works for about an hour and then i'm awake.

melatonin -- useless. made me bounce off the walls.

tried otc diphahydramine and man -- heart pounding, chest pain, thought i was going to die. never again.

what in the world can i do? can't take antibiotics.

just started buhner herbs and now am up to twice a day. so far no effects that i can tell.

oh man, i need some sleep, i'm so tired.

I have had muscle twitching/jerks/spasms in the face and throat..both sides. What has helped me a bit was taking Flexeril (muscle relaxant). Ambien helped me sleep for 3 hours but did nothing to help the muscle spasms. I am not taking ambien anymore as I can get just as much sleep with Flexeril, and the spasms get slightly better. I have also been on antibiotics for almost one month (after a previous long-term treatment several years ago). I also take magnesium and vitamin B.

Good luck

Yes, flexeril may do the trick! That is good stuff.

Hope you find something to help, randi!!

I've always had good results with Restoril. It comes in 15 & 30mg pills. I started with 15mg and stayed there, as the 30mg gave me such a next morning hangover that I couldn't function.

Ativan, is also a good one, for sleep. Not as a tranq. I started off with smallest possible dose w/ this drug as well.

Flexeril is a muscle relaxant. It also helps me sleep, and stay asleep. 10mg is the normal dose.

All 3 of these drugs are old timer drugs, the newer ones (like Ambien) tend to have hideous side effects (like sleep eating, oy) and nightmares. I prefer to take tried & true drugs, ones that have been around so long that all the known adverse effects are well known, and managable.

I did B12IM and liquid magnesium for a good sleep.

Oh randibear, then I am not alone. I have it too. Horrible! The facial twitching sucks and gets worse at night! Sometimes I take a damp luke warm towel and puts it over my face just to calm it down a bit. Try that!

This may sound silly, but it works for my son who has facial twitches as well. He has his all day though.

In the evenings, he takes a bath in Epsom salt. Then when he gets in bed, I take a very soft baby brush and gently brush his face and his head. It stops them long enough that he's able to fall asleep.

I know it sounds crazy, but it really works for him.

I'm trying to find other ways to help him other than more pills and some of these ideas really do seem to help.

I hope you get some relief soon.

From p. 6 of Burrascano:

"Magnesium deficiency is very often present and quite severe. Hyperreflexia, muscle twitches, myocardial irritability, poor stamina and recurrent tight muscle spasms are clues to this deficiency. Magnesium is predominantly an intracellular ion, so blood level testing is of little value. Oral preparations are acceptable for maintenance, but those with severe deficiencies need additional, parenteral dosing: 1 gram IV or IM at least once a week until neuromuscular irritability has cleared."
