reasons beside lyme?

Yes Shelly, I have had elevated platlets on my last 3 labs.
It means that your red blood cells are larger than normal....at least that is how it was explained to me.
What are your #s and what is the reference range?
Do you have babesia? Or are you treating babesia? Just wondering as babs affects the RBC's
Mine are elevated, but not enough to have to see a hematoligist at this point.

Looked this up in my lab manual.
Many possible reasons for elevated platelets -- everything from anemia to exercise to acute infection to malignancy to pregnancy and the list goes on.
My guess would probably be anemia -- either iron deficiency or hemolytic.

I used to have that before I was finally treated for Lyme. I did have anemia at one point while testing high on platelets.
