I've been searching posts and understand lemon water is a good detox.

I was just wondering though... I haven't been up to going to grocery but I already had one of those squeeze (yellow shaped lemon) juice ---that i've been using.

I suppose it is actually just plain, REAL lemon juice?????

Anybody have any ideas on it???

It does bother me that it seems to be in a plastic container but I figure its ok to use until I can either get the lemon juice in the bottle and/or real lemons.

My new meds are kicking my butt and I really am trying to drink as much as I can to help out??

Thanks all,

Karen (:

You are supposed to use fresh lemons.

But, Minute Maid makes a frozen lemon juice that I like. It is not a concentrate, no sugar, no preservatives, no water added, nothing like that, it's just juice. Found it in the freezer section at my local grocery store. One bottle has about 7 lemons in it!

Honestly, I think that this juice works just as well as fresh squeezed but it is far more convenient. Before I found this, I would rarely take the time to squeeze a lemon. It was too messy and I never got much juice out of it.

So now that I have the frozen bottles of juice I am much more likely to use the lemon juice. And it does help me feel better when I'm herxing.

FRESH whole lemons are best (store in fridge).

ORGANIC only. Even if no preservatives, unless it is organic, most citrus is loaded with pesticides or other farm chemicals. That is very hard on our liver. You can find out about the growing practices for any product but it takes a lot of work.

Another concern with any packaged juice: it's important to buy only in glass, not plastic or in a juice box that is lined with a teflon-like plastic. There's nothing like the package nature gives us: the whole piece of fruit.

However, I don't think it's the best "detox" agent but that term can be confusing. Yes, it's very helpful for moving stuff through and on out - and that is always good for the liver.

Still, be sure this would is only PART of a good LIVER SUPPORT PLAN with the most important part of that Milk Thistle or other supplement that supports and protects the liver (lemon is good but has far different properties). Your LLMD should have suggestions.

Also gentle movement is important to get circulation moving (but not aerobics until your LLMD says that is okay).

=============

Search Amazon for "lemon squeezer" and you will find many good options that will be easier on hands and wrists.

The enamel coated ones are best as enamel is a porcelain/glass coating that is non-reactive to acids.

Again, if you buy a week's worth of lemons, be sure to store lemons in the fridge. Organic lemons can spoil much faster on the countertop than those conventionally grown.

LIVER LINKS. At this Tinnitus thread, you will find many links for liver support. First, see Singleton's "The Lyme Disease Solution" for he has good details there specifically for lyme patients. More liver links, in general, are here, 3/4 of the way down:

A reminder anytime you peel an organic lemon, orange or grapefruit: eat as much of the white stuff between the skin and the fruit as you can. The pectin in is very good in many ways.

If you put a whole lemon in the blender with some olive oil and a bit of juice like 1/4 cup.. you can even use lemon juice..

Then strain.. you are getting the juice and more and I got that idea from a doctors site online.

I also have a plastic handjuicer and it fits right on top of a cup and it makes it really easy because you can juice a whole lemon real fast and get all the juice and it then it strains the pits too..

Add water and walla..

Great suggestions. Thanks a million!!!

Springshowers:
I know this probably a stupid question but is the whole lemon put in the blender whole or perhaps cut in half??? Sorry ):

Lemon juice is used by folks with a common type
of kidney stones to prevent recurrence and
does this by alkalinizing the urine. The citric acid and not the vitamin c is the cause of
urine alkalinization. I had kidney stones and
lyme disease and happened to be fresh squeezing
and adding real lemon. I found that when I drank it around the time I took my doxycycline
that I got the sickness quicker and deeper but also overwith quicker so that I could better get on with the day. Now I have tried to discover if
citric acid might also affect lysosomal pH as if
it were to alkalinize the pH then it would subtantially enhance macrolide antibiotic effects
at the intracellular level. I know grapefruit juice has a bad rap due to drug interactions but
I have found grapefruit and lemon both have high
amounts of citric acid (they are both very sour as a result.) Oranges and limes do not seem to
have as much acid.

More lemons and lyme please,

Beachinit

After forgetting to squeeze fresh lemons into my water glass so often I now keep a ready made container in the fridge!
I sqeeze 2 whole lemons and add water. It has become such a convenience that I now enjoy strong "lemon" water more than plain water!

Morning,
Lemon water is awesome especially when herxing. It's even better cold. [Smile]

Alternatively you can buy Lemon Oil from www.youngliving.com
It's under $10, and completely portable (and comes in a glass bottle).

One drop to water gives a yummy flavor, but 10 drops a couple times a day will change your ph.

I was drinking lemon water for awhile and it was working well for the herxing but then my teeth started to get stains on them. I think the acidity was taking the enamel off of my teeth. I tried drinking it w/a straw but still had the problem. Has anyone else?

Have heard to watch enamel with pure lemon juice
but I avoid drinking more than 8-12 oz / day
and try to have it early in day to avoid
acid reflux which can damage enamel, if severe,
all by itself.

Alkalinization thru lemon juice. Once it gets to the kidney the citric acid alkalinizes the urine.

That is pretty neet. But use with caution ,,,
maybe a bicarbonate mouthrinse afterwards would
help. . .

I'll drink to that,

Beachinit.

The acid from lemons damages enamel and causes sensitivity mostly with prolonged exposure. So it's a sort of cumulative thing.

Don't sip on a glassful all day or over long periods of time. Drink it quickly and then rinse well with water. Or like the above poster mentioned, rinse with something else.

Should help!
