I hear that Amoxycilan is preferred...any details?

I think that doxy is the preferred choice in adults. Children would take amox.

Well, I was told today that it was reported at the last ILADS conference that amoxycillin does better than doxycycline, since doxy looked like it was more likely to drive the bacteria into cyst form.
And specifically, 1500mg amoxy (3 500mgs) 2x/day, in the morn and eve, for six weeks.

Personally I do not have much faith in these short term "preventive" treatments. Study(with doxy 200 mg x 1 dose within 48 hrs of tick bite) showed they are "97.5%" effective though. I do not think they can hurt but some may get false sense of security then delay seeking treatment when gradual onset of disseminated symptoms occur. If I ever, ever get over my disease and get another tick bite 6 wks of doxy 200 twice/day would be mandatory. My gut tells me the quick prophy treatment is polly-anna-ish and will be proven wrong eventually.
