Cotacachi is known for making about anything you can think of out of leather, music (and making mucical instruments), and even the Mirage (a five star hotel and spa. I found information on the internet about treatments at Sol de Vida (sun of life) in Cotacachi.

I arrived here and as I was leaving the bus terminal, I met Luis a native who speaks English and is a good guide and source of information. He has a mercado (Luiss Place) across the street from the terminal. I asked him the location of Sol de Vida.

He directed me a block down the street to a clinic around the corner from the new pharmacy. I arrived at Cruz Andina clinic still pulling my bag. I quicky found out Sol de Vida had closed, but a doctor who worked there was here.

I immediately got into see him and he recommended 15 daily (5 per week) treatments. After the $12 apointment, I immediately had a combination of treatments lasting 1 1/2 hours and costing $7. I also got three homeopathic medications.

I will do an additional post describing my health and the treatments.

There is a restrauant here called the Serendipidy with all natural foods. I is owned by a very nice lady from Florida. You dont have to be there very long to find customers who know about or are receiving treatment here. Is a great place for the food, making friends, and getting information.

I would estimate the majority of customers at the Cruz Andino clinic are from the US. As I finished my last treatment this morning, a group of French Canadians were there. The nurse said they were getting information about chelation and wanted to do more of it in Canada.

There is a doctor in another office here who was trained in Russia. He uses some of their technology and methods. One example is the Runo computerized diagnostic system. I got the ion foot bath there.

There is also a retired naturopath doctor from the USA who does ozone treatments. Reportedly it works to rebuild cartiledge, even when it is bone against bone. The key is laying down fibroblasts.

He will also be doing a black light (ultra violet) treatment of blood that kills any bacteria, virus, etc. Then the blood is put back into the body to kill infections in the rest of the blood.

Additionally, the environment is healthy here. The food and air is excellent, although the altitude is a little over 8,000 feet. I regulary use a c-pap machine anyway and have done well here.

I am not a doctor or medical person, but want to share my experiences. I will add more to this thread.

Just curious - how did you end up going there? Just 'cause you heard about it? Wonder if there are any more sites like this one south of the border...

Pigwit, did you go to Ecuador specifically for treatment at this clinic?

It is interesting because I got sick suddenly 3days after returning from a medical mission trip to Ecuador.

We spent most of our time holding a clinic in the mountains above Riobamba. Got to spend a couple days in Quito, also visited the market in Cotacachi and Otavalo, spent one day in Banos(known for their hot springs), and went hiking in the jungle.

The country and the people are so beautiful. The food is unbelievable. More varieties of fruits and vegetables than you could ever imagine! If you can, eat a passion fruit for me [Smile]

You should also try to see a couple cities while you are there. Check out the volcanoes, go to Otavalo, go to the jungle. I would love to go back some day to see the Galapagos islands too.

Hi again, I came to Ecuador a couple of months last fall for several reasons. One was my health, but without any specific treatments or clinics in mind.

I wanted adventure, maybe see a Shaman or two, try to learn about herbal remedies, etc. Also to learn some Spanish while increasing ability to concentrate and remember things.

I initially went to the coast (Canoa) for 5 weeks. Someone stole my c-pap machine off the bus when I traveled down there from Quito. I was able to sleep relatively well there without it.

I could hear the ocean waves and feel the breeze 24 hours a day and go out on the basically white sands beach anytime I wanted. I think the ionization of the ocean water was great for me.

I ate 3 large meals per day and lost weight fairly rapidly. I had bought a jar of salve for arthritis, etc. from a guy (vendor) who got on the bus. I used it and the pain in my joints decreased and my endurance increased.

I was barely well enough to go there by myself, but was much improved when leaving Canoa. Then I went to Quito to stay for a month before returning to the USA last November. I will continue with this in another post.

Robin, other reasons for going here are the low prices and what I consider the unstable political and economic situations in the USA. I have plans for the next month or so.

Sammy, Im wondering if you bought food or drink from a street vendor just before you left Ecuador. There could have been some kind of parasite. You were also in areas where you could have altitude sickness, but obviously it should not strike after you returned home.

I have also experienced the hot spring in Banos. I have been to Otavalo several times. The bus from Cotacachi to Otavalo leaves about every 10 minutes and costs 25 cents each way. I had maybe my best feeling here at Mindo (in the cloud forest). These experiences seem positive for my health. I just have been careful to not exhaust myself too much.

I dont consider medical treatment in Cotacachi (or anywhere else) as the end of seeking health and happiness, just part of the process. I think my attitude and thinking is more flexible now. Also there is a great view of a volcano from the window of my room in a $7 per night hostel here. I agree about the fruit and vegetables.

Sorry I rambled on so, hope it makes sense.

Pigwit - amazing that you had to go almost 40 years before getting diagnosed - you are a survivor -

I am very slow about reviewing information on my medical history and how it relates to improving health in Ecuador. I will give it a shot now.

I am a male who had a rash over 4o-years-ago in Mass. consistent with a bulls eye rash. About a year later, I had difficulty doing my job.

The medical focus was on psychiatric problems and I was given a mix of thorazine and stelazine. This was around the time throazine was marketed as a chemical alternative to lobotomy.

Over the years, I tended to go in cycles having problems with work, marriage, depression, arthritis, memory, concentration, etc. Jobs would typically last about 2 years.

Doctor's would typically tell me that I was in good health. I was able to complete a master's degree and gain work as a professional.

As problems with memory and concentration increased, I was no longer able to work as a professional. I had a droopy left eye for over 40 years, then 4-years-ago I got full blown Bells palsy.

I went down to doing general labor jobs. My last job ended a little over 3-years-ago. Vertigo had gotten bad and it was sometimes difficult to talk. It was not very safe for me to drive a car.

Three years ago, I finally figured out I had Lyme disease and possible co-infections. The initial six months of antibiotics and associated treatment prescribed by an LLMD helped a lot.

Then the progress leveled off. The obstacle seemed to be related to extensive dental problems. It now seems almost like a miracle that the money for almost $15,000 of work by a biological dental surgeon became available.

He used the Huggins Protocol and removed extensive amalgam fillings (mecury), other metal, 5 root canals, and cleaned out the cavitations.

Before that work, I was having diffiulty with coordination and balance. When walking, my feet were very wide apart to keep from falling. I was exhausted very easily and would take several days to recover.

Just before the last major dental appointment, I got Bells palsy on the other side of my face. By taking short term steroid, getting the dental work finished within 1 1/2 weeks, and taking 400 mg. of doxycycling a day for 30 days, the new Bells was resolved. I still have it on the orginal side, but it is not real noticable now.

The first dental appointment of removing the amalgams resulted in immediate improvement in my ability to walk, speak, and think clearly enough to drive more safely.

While getting the dental work done, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I use a c-pap machine when sleeping. I also have a weight problem.

After the dental work, I thought detox was a key and did not go back on antibiotics. Progress with detox on my own with supplements was slow.

However, last fall I decided to go to Ecuador for a couple of months. I researched it a lot with the internet. It was difficult to make the trip by myself, even though my health was improved.

In Ecuador, I soon felt healthier and younger. I lost 20# in a couple of months eating all the traditional Ecuadorian food I wanted or could eat.

I returned to the US, but wanted to live in Ecuador. I have been back in Ecuador a little over 2 months now and it is going good. I have been trying treatments here and losing more weight.

It is like an adventure with the treatments. I will post more about the treatments I had and may get.

A lesson I get out of it all is to keep trying. Keep learning. Don't believe everything I am told. Think for myself. It will work out, but even if it doesn't, I gave it my best shot....and maybe I can still help others a little. God bless.
