OK. Last week or so and two weeks previous I had stomach pains and almost (sometimes always) completely liquid diarrhea. A few months prior I had it with stomach pain and it eventually went away. Last year I had it for 2 months and it eventually went away. It is not that bad of a concern now because it seems to be brought on by certain foods, BUT previously it came on seemingly without eating these certain foods. It seems that soda's of any sort caffiene free or other wise, seem to bring on stomach gurgling then a yellowish liquid with some stool. But not always and sometimes hours after the drink is consumed. I just got done eating some pizza and within the 5 minuits after eating it I had liquid yellowish watery stuff with some stool.

What is related to soda and pizza that causes these issues? Perhaps ground beef too. I don't get it. I am not and havent been on a antibiotics yet.

Did the soda have sugar in it, or was it sugar-free?

If it had sugar in it, the soda and the pizza have one thing in common--they are carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates include sugar, fruit, white flour, etc. The pizza dough is made from white flour.

How intolerant you are of carbohydrates determines whether you will have the diarhhea every time or not. If you mix in a little carbohydrates with lots of other food (like meat and non-starchy vegetables), your intestines may be able to deal with the carbs.

But, if you drink an entire soda on an empty stomach, then you may not be able to tolerate that much carbs all by themselves.

A gastrointerologist can do tests to see exactly what sugars you cannot digest. There are many kinds--milk sugar, fruit sugar, etc. Then, he will give you a list of the foods to avoid. That's how this is treated to the best of my knowledge.

Clostridium difficile (C. diff) causes abdominal cramping with liquid diarrhea.

C. diff is a bacterium we all have in our intestines. When we have enough of the "good bacteria," (like from probiotics) the C. diff just hangs out in the mix. When we take antibiotics, the good bacteria get wiped out, and C. diff can proliferate and cause liquid diarrhea. Then it's called Antibiotic Associated Diarrhea (AAD).

I read that you haven't started antibiotics yet. Have you been hospitalized for anything? C. diff is common is hospitals.

Either way, I would rule this out with a stool test before starting antibiotics. Untreated C. diff causes a condition called pseudomembranous colitis, which is major inflammation and infection in the intestines. Not to scare you, but it can be fatal. Take this seriously and get a stool test.

I took 3 weeks of Flagyl when I developed C. diff. I also thought it was food-related at first. I'm fine now and back on my Lyme program, with extra probiotics.

I wonder if the soda and pizza might be too acidic for you? Or maybe it is the combo of sugar, grease, and cheese. You are probably not used to eating such things.

It is a bummer though to get sick after eating pizza. I love pizza. If it was good for me I'd probably eat it at least once a week.

I had that for a while, and it's gotten better since I had my gallbladder taken out.

A sensitivity to gluten containing foods (such as pizza) can cause these symptoms. Some people feel much better on a non-gluten food plan. You may want to look into Gluten intolerance.

BoxerMom are you sure the Flagyl caused your c.diff? Did you have a positive stool test for it? I am asking because Flagyl is normally used to treat c.diff, although it can cause it in some cases. The liquid diarrhea can be gastro-colic reflex, or some other IBS like motility disorder. I would get a workup by a good GI doctor.

WildCondor - maybe my post was unclear. I took Flagyl to treat my C.diff.
