Looking for a quality Coenzyme Q10. My doctor has recommended me to start taking it daily.

Saw many brands on the internet. Has any one brand worked well for you? Would welcome your input.

Thank you.

I'd suggest a Kaneka Q10 brand -- several out there.
Jarrow is a good one. I also suggest taking it in gel form and with a meal. Ubiquinol is another option, but only really needed probably if you were told to take high doses of Q10.

iHerb has good prices, especially on the Healthy Origins brand.

Thanks Lemon Lyme.

Is Ubiquinol a stronger version of CoQ10? My LLMD does want me to take a high dose but did not recommend any certain brand.

Ubiquinol is supposed to absorb better. Ubiquinone is the majority of what you will find. Some labels won't state what it is, so assume it is ubiquinone.

I currently have Jarrow brand ubiquinol and Jarrow is a good brand.

What dose was suggested for you?

Ubiquinol is the reduced form of CoQ10 and may absorb better (it did for me), but it's also like 2x the price, so unless you need high serum amounts, it may not be worth it.

Jarrow Q-absorb is a good CoQ10, but also comes in pretty large gels, so may not be ideal for those who tend to choke on large pills.

If one takes Ubiquinol does that mean less of a dose is needed than if one was taking Ubiquinone?

Lemon Lyme, Editing...Just saw your post. LLMD recommended 600mg Coq10 a day.

I take Advanced Ubiquinol CoQ10 100 mg from the Vitamin Shoppe.

600mg daily? That is a large amount there.
As a comparison, I take it for cardiomyopathy, and my cardiologist recommended 300mg daily. Why did he recommend so much?

And yes, if you take ubiquinol, you probably can take a lower dose.

I've had my serum levels tested before, and the biovailabilty (in me) was approx 2.5x higher compared to CoQ10 in gel form.

So you probably could get by taking 250-300mg Ubiquinol -- although that is still expensive. You can ask your LLMD to run a CoQ10 serum test on you, if you want, so you can gauge how well the supplements are working.

Not sure why he recommended 600mg. I did not realize it was such a higher dose until researching on the internet to order. I do have low blood pressure. I will ask at my next visit. I am a little concerned now that I know it is a large dose.

His main goals right now are to build the immune system, detox, and reduce inflammation.

That is good to know there is a CoQ10 serum test to verify that supplements are working.

Thank you everyone for responding. I have learned a lot from your responses.

Ubiquinol is more readily absorbed than regular CoQ10.

My mom takes the Healthy Origins Ubiquinol 100mg softgels. Costs about $27 for 60 soft gels, pretty cheap for a 2 month supply.

Check it out here at iherb:

I've been using the same brand, but 50mg, 3x daily. I've also used Doctor's Best ubiquinol with good results.

One thing I forgot to mention for the original poster, it's best to space out dosing for better serum levels. So smaller doses 2-3x daily should be better than one giant dose. It's also easier on your digestion that way.

Thanks everyone. You have been very helpful. One last question:

Has anyone noticed a difference in any way (improved energy levels, etc)? Would be encouraging to hear.

My ND has me on Life Extension Super Ubiquinol CoQ10 100 mg 2x daily.

The reviews on iherb.com are excellent:
