I'm at my wits end. I've gone the PPI route, tried Betaine HCL, other supplements, haven't found an answer.

Tested negative for H. Pylori, been scoped, yet the painful spasms have continued.

what has helped you the most with esophageal spasms? They are awful!

Thanks!

Hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I haven't found a whole lot to help mine, if that's what it even is.

The only thing that even remotely sort of halfway helps is popping a couple Benadryl; for some reason that relaxes whatever is in there to a point where I can tolerate it.

Don't know if what I have is esophageal spasms or not, but I feel like I am choking. The only thing that helps just slightly is Xanax.

I also used PPI's but not sure they are needed. They do make my stomach feel better though.

My Aunt had this problem and her Dr. gave her nitroglycerin. Thats a heart med for angina but it helped her spasms. She took 1/2 under her tongue. It can drop your pressure so you have to be careful and see how it affects you.

Taking magnesium seems to have reduced my esophageal spasms.

Which makes sense, because low mag causes spasms.

I am curious to what this feels like. I believe I have them. It feels to me like a tightness in my throat at times, does that describe it?

Xanax helps some in most cases if that is what you are feeling.

For me its a tightness in the throat and many times feels like its closing up.

I also think magnesium helps some too! Forgot to mention that. If it is indeed spasms or muscle issues, mag should help.

I get esophageal spasms when I eat.
I swallow, and then about the middle of my chest it gets "stuck."
There is an awful sense of pressure...I just sit and wait until it passes. I can't really talk, except to say, "I'm alright."

This started in my teens, and I didn't think too much of it because it happened to my sister too.
It was short, maybe 20 or 30 seconds.

In the last ten years, it lasted longer. I timed it once, and it was for three minutes.
Drinking water didn't help.

Low magnesium can also cause hiccups, which are spasms of the diaphragm, a sheet of muscle below the lungs.

DO you guys ever get what feels like your heart skipping a beat when this happens? Like you can actually feel your esophagus contracting?

I have a Lyme friend who swears by homeopathy for this symptom. I don't know what remedies, but you could Google.

Levsin is supposed to help this condition. Nitroglycerin too, but that can be hard to take. Acid reflux can make this worse as it hits the vagus nerve.

Again, anyone with this, does it feel like your esophagus is contracting like a skipped heartbeat, or is it more like a tightening pain?
