Are you sensitive to bright lights ? I wonder if you have a vitamin A deficiency of some sort.

floaters, floaters and floaters. Did I mention floaters? Like I live in a snow globe! Have had blurry patches, inflamed eyes, flashes.

Sharp stitches feels like bites.
Blurred vision only when there is mold in the room. Red broken blood vessels and a cotton wool spot.

Florence,

It's always worse for me first thing in the morning, but I've had steady improvement for months.

At one point, I couldn't drive at night because road signs were popping up onto the highway as they trailed with my eyesight. It was so bad, it would linger for what seemed a second or two.

When you're going 65mph on the highway, that's NO good.

Slowly it's resolving. I always find myself testing it out by staring at a road sign and jerking my eyes to the side to see how much trails. Also, lights at night, used to trail to the side for 10+ seconds. Now, just a couple.

Static vision (like bad TV station)
Floaters (broken blood vessels or the appearance of)
Light sensitivity
Lack of shadow detail

and a crazy rainbow colored light that appears in my vision for a couple seconds at a time randomly.

Floaters and pain, sometimes my eyes just burn for no good reason. Would have gotten plenty of sleep and not been in the sun but oh do they burn sometimes.

My vision problems a year ago included: Floaters, flashing lights in corners upon moving eyes, stabbing eye pain (from the back), mild double vision (or what I call "1.5 vision," as the 2nd imae overlaps a lot with the fist), vision blurriness when I get hot or tired, sometimes my eyes get very bloodshot over the course of the day.

Now, I still get flashing lights, some pain, and some blurriness and floaters, but the overall eye situation has improved a LOT.

I fixed my eye symptoms - light sensitivity, floaters, eye muscle pain, blurred vision - by drinking mangosteen juice, an anti-inflammatory antioxidant juice from the tropics.

It has 43 xanthone compounds in it that scarf up free radicals, which is what we have a lot of, due to inflammation.

There are lots of brands. I get the Ultra mangosteen brand with 72 minerals added to it - I get it most cheaply from vitacost (no financial connection).

If you try it, go slowly, as it can be powerful. My eye symptoms cleared up in a day's time!

I still drink about a half ounce in the am and pm.

We have had threads on it here - search for mangosteen. We're all different - it worked for some and not for others.

Ocasionally I have green goop, sealing my eye shut, in the morning. This is usually right before the onset of a rash. When the rash is on my face sometimes half of the white's of my eye will be bloodshot--this is random and happens throughout the day. Not painful and isn't specific to either eye like the green goop.

I have major eye things. Floaters, wormy like flashes, spots, light sensitivity, etc. I never know if this is from the meds/herx or toxicity.

Horrible eye problems too. My peripheral vision has been steadily declining for 7 years and ophtham. says I won't get it back. He says once it's gone, it's gone. Floaters, lines, flashing on outer edges. Eye pain can be bad when lying or with brightness. I'm just a recluse, it's less painful.

Gave up driving a year ago. The periph. is so bad that cars seemed like they were on top of me. I can't look straight ahead when my husband and I are driving through toll booths. It's NUTS.

Gonna try the mangosteen.

I pray that all your eye symptoms improve. Thanks for sharing.

For pinky -I'm no expert, just a Lymie, but sounds like you may have blepharitis. Blepharitis may also be connected to facial seborrhea.

I know two brothers who suffered with this for yrs 'til I researched in a nutritional book and found a very simple solution for them: Wash! [Big Grin]

Ok, seriously: In the morning, try washing your eyes very gently with extra mild baby shampoo on a clean washcloth. Use warm water. Be thorough but gentle. Don't expect a miracle the first day, but you may see great improvement after doing this daily for a week. Use a fresh, clean washcloth each morning. Soon you can wash your eyelashes with the baby shampoo every-other day, then eventually just once a week. In time, even less often and still keep the blepharitis in check.

Blepharitis may also improve with a Candida control diet.

Hope this helps.

back2game,

I heard the same crap. And, judging by what you said, my vision was as bad as yours.

I think our eye problems relate a little more, and I've gone from 0-80% in 4 months with my vision.

Try using OLE (Olive Leaf Extract). I worked up from 10 drops to 80 drops twice daily. Before I even started my ABX regimen, I was having visual and other improvements with OLE. It's a natural antifungal and antibacterial supplement; with many benefits and very few side effects.

Always best to start slow to see how you'll react, but I attribute all my visual improvement to OLE.

What's great is everytime I think I'm almost at 100%, I notice my vision is better, but it could be even a little more better. And every week, the trails get lighter, the colors are clearer, the static field is reduced, and the floaters are less intense.

The floaters may not go away, but they are definitely not in front of my eyes all day like they used to be.

My vision seems to be in a downswing again--more floaters (these are grey instead of clear), blurriness, feeling like there's something in my eye, tearing, etc.

Just wondering if I should suggest a med change from LLMD next week. I've been on Doxy and Rifampin for probably 6 months---

I had been on Doxy and then he switched me to Amoxyl. Seemed to help the vision a bit, but all other sx worsened, so he put me back on Doxy.

Frustrated.

Red eyes is usually the first sign that I'm going to have a flare. Red like from allergies but I know it's not allergies.

do you think the vision problems are from the meds? I didn't get flashing lights until I started abx and now I ahve teh static vision - very faint, but I notice it. In and out blurred vision has been a constant for a while, even before abx. I got the static vision after taking diflucan. Will this go away??

i have a weird dark see-through splotch in my peripheral vision in my left eye. it's been there for almost a year. i only see it against pale backgrounds or in certain types of lighting. it appears when i blink and fades as i keep my eyes open.

i used to get a geometric grid pattern like graph paper that was overlaid on my entire visual field every morning upon waking. it would last for several seconds and then clear. haven't had that in a year and then it suddenly showed up again this morning... hopefully a herx.

i HATE eye stuff!!!

regarding: " . . . a weird dark see-through splotch in my peripheral vision . . ."

Please see an eye doctor as soon as possible. Today, even. Not everything is lyme (or a herx) - or even if lyme connected, sometimes, we really need to consult an eye specialist. Putting off such an appointment can put our vision at risk.

-----------

the mention above of extra mild baby shampoo - is for outside of the eyes, never inside. Just to be clear. And for some, that can be irritating. It's not as pure as we think. Still chemicals.

-----------

Even with floaters, it is good to get an eye exam to be sure as they can be from different causes. Floaters are usually debris but you need to be sure - and then the eye doctor can teach you how to tell when you might need to come in - or not.

Antioxidants can help most typical floaters to diminish.

hi keebler --

i have had the splotch for almost a year. when it first showed up i saw an eye doctor who dilated my pupils and said that everything looked normal.

i recently had an MRI of my head and nothing showed on that either.

my LLMD knows about it too.

so, whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be an acute problem. i wouldn't let something like that go without investigating it.

i want to emphasize that i don't see it all the time -- only when i blink. if i keep my eyes open it fades and my visual field appears normal. most of the time i don't notice it.

i make art for a living so i know the importance of good vision. i'm thinking of getting one more eye exam but other than that i don't know what else i can do...

Yeah, my eye doc checked me over too and said there's nothing wrong with my eyes.

Then he tells me that I should come in "every time" I get these floaters or blurriness.

Okay, should we make a standing appointment three times every day? Sheesh!

I've been doing mangosteen--I'm up to 3 oz. a day, and it doesn't help at all.

Starfall,

My eye doctor told me that, too, then taught me how to be a bit more able to figure out for myself. Basically, they wanted to see me every time I got a new set of floaters - as it could be a detached retina and they just need to be sure as that would require immediate treatment.

I have found that antioxidants help. If Mangosteen doesn't help, there are many others to consider.
----------

lajamur,

Glad to hear you've had that checked out. Please don't read in my cautions to have an eye doctor check it as criticism. Sorry if it read that way. As that was not mentioned at first, I just thought it good to mention as, so often, many with lyme have been turned away from all doctors and some knew to eye problems may not know what's important with so much going wrong with the body.

So, my comments usually also think about others coming along with similar symptoms.

I don't know about the dark patch from blinking but inner ear stuff can also really affect visual perception.

Just in case that ever comes up for anyone (since lyme so often affects the inner/middle ear - the vestibular system):

thanks keeb, and no need to apologize!! i'm sorry if i came across as defensive. the truth is i am feeling very poorly today, stuck in a hotel room in napa CA, supposed to go to a wedding in 2 hours but i have a terrible cold virus or herx or something going on and i have no idea how i'm going to make it through the evening..... so i think i'm just in crabby-frustrated mode, and i'm sorry if that came across in my post!

i really think i am going to get a second opinion from another eye doc though. after that i guess i will just have to let it be and hope that it improves with lyme tx.

I don't have any vision problems; what i have is eye pains, lasting about a minute, not severe enough to register much on a pain scale , just enough to know it's an eye pain.

Also ear pains, about a tenth or twentieth as many. Always only ONE eye or ear at a time, NEVER both at once.

I'm getting fewer of them, i think, since i've been rifing and off abx.

They could be caused by Lyme, Babs, Bart, or Toxoplasmosis, or even Candida i think. I rife for all of those.

Does any diagnostician happen to know what the cause is?? All those years of Lyme abx never stopped the eye pains.

Just to add to the poll-like nature of this post, I have tons of floaters before treatment and now--during treatment. Also, some light flashes sometimes when I close my eyes. Eye pain from time to time. Have had dry eyes upon waking. Big globs SEEM to be floating around some days. And total loss of night vision in the left eye which has been twitching for 6 years.

I'm gonna try that mangosteen--thanks!

My 5 yr old son had visual hallucinations, he described seeing fish, bugs blowing bubbles etc.

After about 6 months of that, it changed to in his words, "....looking out a window when it's pouring outside. You try to see thru it, but can't."

Within months of that, he began experiencing periods of complete vision loss.

He's now 7, and finished treatment in Mar. No problems for a long time and is considered a cure....

Still dealing with learning issues (reading, focusing issues) but, that is cake compared to the visual problems.
