Am considering whether to start using VSL#3. Currently taking Theralac, SB, and alternating 2 other Probiotics.

However, recently started Flagyl and other medications and am sensing I need stronger probiotics(bloated, etc).

If you are using VSL3, your feedback would be very much appreciated before I ask my doctor for a prescription. I already went to the VSL3 website to learn as much as I can.

How has it helped you?

Thank you for your input.

I would not be able to treat my Lyme and Co-infections without VSL #3. It is my most important supplement.

I've been using this product for over 2 years.

Hi MorninSong!

VSL#3 is a great probiotic. High potency, lots of research backing it's effectiveness.

I currently take 2 VSL#3 capsules per day (225 billion). You can buy the capsules or powder packets from pharmacies like CVS or you can order them directly off the company's website.

My old insurance company covered the RX version VSL#3DS (double strength). The powder tasted terrible and I had to mix it with cranberry juice just to choke it down. After a couple months, gag reflex got too strong so I had to switch back to the capsules.

It's great!! I needed it whenever I was on abx. The other probiotics though strong were not enough.

You don't need a prescription for it, you can order it off the website. They make it seem like you need one, but you don't.

Thank you so much everyone for your feedback. I had thought it was available via prescription only.

Went to their website and ordered the capsules to start with. I am happy to hear how well it worked for you.

You have been a great help. Thanks again.

After going through 10 brands I settled on vsl #3. 2 caps at bedtime on empty stomach works wonders on my system. VSL is the Acura of probiotics.

I use the VSL#3 DS (double strength) which is a prescription powder that you add to a beverage or food and consume. I add mine to water and drink it.

It has "8 strains of live freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria and 900 billion bacteria per sachet." It works great!

I've been using the VSL#3 DS too, for about 9 months or so now. No problems at all -- it's been working great so far.

Only issue may be for those who dislike the taste, but I just put it in water like Sammi does, and gulp it down.

And I've only been using around 1/3-1/4 packet daily. Since I have boxes of the stuff, I think it's going to last forever (or like 1-1.5 years, until it expires).

if you take vsl do you still need florastor?

is vsl good for c. diff?

I too have had very good luck with VSL#3. I use a combination of that and Theralac. I think sadly we just have to experiment and see what is best for our bodies since no two people respond the same.

But for me, VSL#3 is great.

As far as these vs Florastor, I have been told to take both since Florastor isn't really a probiotic and works totally differently.

This is the best one out there IMO. I've taken it the whole time on tx and no gut problems.

Expensive though.

VSL#3 combined with florastor or another saccharomyces boulardii product (I'm partial to Jarrow as it is equally effective and 1/4 the price) is a winning combination for surviving antibiotic therapy with your gut intact.
