So does anyone have issues with skin blemishes taking awhile to heal?

I've always had overactive skin with pimples, although now at 40 it's nothing like my teen years.

I've noticed these last 2 years that I've been battling this parasitic gunk that my skin is more sensitive and it takes awhile for any large pimple to heal.

I've got one on my upper back that I tried to speed along by squeezing -- yes, I know, don't do that! -- but I did and now it's just a hard lump underneath and red on the skin. Probably been there a good month or more.

It's not a boil and I've had others on my skin that took at least a month or two to go away. Even then, I can see real faints areas where some of those slow to heal blemishes occurred.

Just another sign of a dysfunctioning immune system?

Have you ever tried using a product called "ZENO"? It is a small hand held device that uses direct heat to kill the bacteria that cause acne.

One treatment dramatically reduces the size, redness, and pain of the pimple. After two or three treatments the blemish is gone!

If I remember correctly, you have to wait about 12hrs or so between treatments. So it heals them in 1 or 2 days instead of weeks. And it doesn't break the skin so there is no scaring.

Here is a link for more information: http://www.myzeno.com/hotspot/frequently-asked-questions/

Looks like you can get the newer "hot spot" version for only $40 (Walmart).

I have the original ZENO that I bought a couple years ago. I was getting large painful pimples that took forever to heal and were causing scars on my face. ZENO worked great for me, no more scars. I still use it every now and then to zap a pimple before it gets full blown ugly.

If you are willing to spend some money, Murad has some great skincare products. http://www.murad.com/
The acne treatment kit is about $30, it lasted me over 2 months with twice daily use.

They also have a gel that will get rid of your acne scars and skin discolorations. http://www.murad.com/treatments/post-acne-gel.jsp

If money is tight, you might want to consider getting a Clinique skin consult. I am currently using their liquid soap and clarifying lotion twice daily. It is keeping my skin nice and balanced.

These two large bottles cost less than $30 together, and it looks like they are going to last me about a year! (Still have product left, started using it early last summer.)

I also like Clinique's City Block spf 45. It is the only sunscreen that does not make me break out. The bottle lasts about 4-6mo also.
