My boyfriend just came back from the pharmacy with the generic form of Bactrim (the pharmacy didn't have the non generic form) No other pharamcies are opened right now, but I was thinking of holding off taking the meds until tomorrow when I can get the Bactrim in non generic form. Do you think they work the same? (generic vs. non generic)

I think they are the same. Bactrim is a very old drug. It is a combination of 2 medications.
I took the generic and it worked for me.
I think it would probably be unusual for most people to be taking the brand name based on the age of the med. Most insurances wouldn't pay I wouldn't think.
It is also called Septra and TMP/SMX.
Also, once you take the med from the pharmacy, they will not take it back or give you your money back, so you own it. (They can't take it back in case it was contaminated by you somehow.)
Take it, and tomorrow you can call the pharmacy and have a conversation about generic and brand name. That should give you peace of mind.

I think it will be fine and you should just start it. I am 99.99% sure I started out with the generic (I can't recall ever being given the brand), and I herxed a lot.
So I think Bactrim DS is one where generic is just fine. When I stop it, I can tell I'm off it. And like I said, I don't think I have ever had the brand.

5 months on generic bactrim ds from Wmart and no complaints but at the beginning about every 10-15 days I had to skip a dose and do a mini-detox with vitamin c, Lipoic acid, and now milk thistle (brand name would have done same thing as it has to do with nitrosylation metabolite of the sulfamethoxasole component). I now never have to skip a dose. I am nearly finished with four months of Bactrim and Art for Babs, but also taking clarith and doxy and pulsed Flagyl for Bart/Bb/cystic Bb.
